SEOUL, South Korea — South Korean experts say two small drones believed to have been flown across the border by the North were crude and decidedly low-tech — equipped with cameras available on the Internet for hundreds of dollars — but underscore a potential new threat that must be taken seriously.
North Korea has recently been touting its drone program, a relatively new addition to its arsenal. It has prominently displayed large drone-like aircraft in military parades. According to the North’s state-run media, leader Kim Jong Un watched a drone attack drill on a simulated South Korean target last year.
If the South Korean claims that the drones were from the North on military surveillance missions are true, they would be the first solid, public evidence that North Korea is using its drones to infiltrate South Korean airspace, including the skies over the capital Seoul and its surroundings.
The captured drones were basic, at best.
is that a fucking Canon DSLR in a giant RC plane
Oh god it is, lmfao
I was expecting a paper plane with the word "surveillance" written on it.
is this a joke?
I think you can buy more effective spygear at a Toys R Us
Well if it works, it works.
I was expecting a paper plane.
First of all the drone was "decidedly low-tech" and so paper would be too advanced for NK.
North Korea's military is literally a joke.
Well damn.
Before I opened this thread I was going to make a joke about NK's drones being RC planes with cameras tapped to them but then I clicked on the thread and found that's exactly what it was.
They're like the evil villain in the fucking cartoons, always plotting to somehow invade South Korea in every episode but they usually fail with shit like this
[editline]5th April 2014[/editline]
kinda like cartman always wants to kill the jews
What is this Home Alone kind of makeshift crap. It's like their army is run by 9 year old me.
Shit like this reminds me that North Korea is a legitimate travesty.
Did anyone else notice that it's gas? That means someone had to prime it, start the rotor with their hands, and then watch it buzz off like some little irritating bug.

MaCaulay Culkin?
Well, one of better ways to fight is to just make a bunch of extremely cheap shit so whenever you lose some you don't need to give a damn
This is actually a pretty serious situation.
I watched a video on this when the story was just developing and one of the drones was found to have taken pictures of the Presidential office.
These same drones, as shitty as they are, have been shown in North Korean military drills to be capable of dropping explosives on targets a considerable distance away.
They could attack Seoul with these cheap things, and no one would know. They didn't even find it until it actually crashed.
The other one was shot at and crashed on some island.
Specially trained South Korean Counter Intelligence officers stationed on top of a hill with large butterfly nets captured a high-tech surveillance drone believed to be thrown over by the North.
More at 11.
I like how they used a DSLR, probably the most heavy implementation of camera technology for stuff like this.

This one at least streams live video feed. 300 dollar.
I bet that engine is really damn noisy and the antenna looks like its come from a wireless card for a PC
I wonder if 10 FPers pitch in and buy a Nugget Crate if they could topple the north korean government.
I mean this is hilarious, jesus christ.

One Facepuncher could max out his credit card at Toys R Us and topple the North Korean government.
I knew NK technology was pretty shitty, but I didn't know it was this shitty. I saw an image somewhere of NK military training and I think they were using DP28 rifles which were produced around 65 years ago, before being replaced by the RPD machine guns, which were then subsequently replaced by the modern PKM guns we see nowadays. I'm pretty sure their main battle tanks are outdated too, and probably everything else
Well if it works, it works.
I dont think you can call it very successful, since it was captured.

The NK army are still using IL-28s from 1948. Here:

Because it dropped to the ground on it's own.
Hell, they can make hundreds of these cheap things and send them to SK and they'll get all the info they need
I think at home I could make a superior surveillance drone.
In fact I've got a Canon camera right beside me.. Hmm..
“The drones’ technology is not so impressive, but it could be used for terror if improved — either for a kamikaze attack or an attack with biological or chemical weapons.”
Some experts say that’s an overreaction.
:v:
Passionate DIY's can make anything better than the North Koreans can.
Is it funny that it is painted like the sky or am I just ignorant?
