Now I just wish 90% of the trainers didn't suck absolute balls.
Seriously, I'm past the 6th gym, and every trainer I come across thinks they can beat me with 1-2 pokemon. Its almost insulting.

Shit back in Ruby/Sapphire I beat the entire game with just an HM slave and my Mudkip/Marshtomp/Swampert. Pokemon games have always been fairly easy.
Only fun part with some pokemon games is having a level 100 pokemon that hasn't evolved, having a level 100 charmander or squirtle easily pisses off friends, and makes it seem hilarious when you come across trainers with pokemon that're bigger than yours, but get beat down easily.

It gave a sensation that I was running into more experienced trainers.
I'm lacking this feeling with X/Y and it really doesn't help that my promo blaziken is over lvl 60 at the moment. I've yet to even run into something at 50.

you must be relying heavily on the lucky egg and exp share because I don't use either and I'm up to six badges with every trainer's pokemon being about the same level or a bit higher than mine the entire time.
it's been fun and challenging so far
Why back in Generation 1, Pokemon requires a strategy in beating the Gym leaders. There was no running,If your PC is full, you cannot catch any wild pokemon until you switch to another PC box, you have limited space to store items and Dragon type was overpower pokemon back then.

There was only one fully evolved dragon pokémon on Gen1 and it didn't even have a move that had STAB bonus. There was running from wild pokémon. The PC box was just a shitty early mechanic.

Gen1 was a bloated, unbalanced mess and if you think otherwise then I suggest taking off those nostalgia goggles.
I'm glad they are making this less time consuming, your average core gamer probably has a backlog they aren't very proud of (especially if they have a Steam account or play JRPG's) and I don't wanna spend time doing shit like this
