It's not implausible in the least given the two senators who proposed it. Bernie Sanders, a Democratic Socialist who's elected as an Independent, and Jim McDermott, a left-leaning Democrat.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., introduced May 10 federal single-payer legislation to ensure that states implement Medicare-type systems for all residents. The bill requires each state to set up comprehensive health care services for everyone through a progressively financed system. "I think the best way to reduce costs and guarantee coverage for all is through a single-payer system like Medicare," said McDermott. "This bill does just that - it builds on the new health care law by giving states the flexibility they need to go to a single-payer system of their own."
Hear that sound? That high pitched whine? That's the sound of this bill in a complete tailspin, because the far-right wingnuts will never let this pass, as something that would benefit the people as a whole like healthcare reform is SOCIALIST, and we can't have SOCIALISM polluting our country. :colbert:
They've introduced a bunch of single-payer bills over the last few years, and none of them have gotten anywhere near passing

Not gonna go anywhere, the far-right will fuck it up.
Not gonna go anywhere, the far-right will fuck it up.
There may not be many of them left in congress next year.
I demand my co-op bill.
I doubt it will go anywhere but its always worth a shot.
Not gonna go anywhere, the far-right will fuck it up.
We can still dream.
I demand my co-op bill.
split-screen or online bill?

Bernie Sanders needs to be president.
Bernie Sanders needs to be president.
He's a guy with a lot of integrity, that's for sure.
