I don't think changing the story or characters warrants "re-making" an entire game.
If done with tact and care I thought the story presented in that trailer would have been great.
I just hope they make it like the older games i.e. planning your mission, different orders to give your team, one shot kills etc. My worry from that trailer is that it'll be too story driven to deliver that type of gameplay. Hopefully their rework of the game will incorporate the older games' gameplay.

To be perfectly honest I would be equally happy with either effectively Vegas' gameplay or RS3 and before's gameplay.
I liked the style and fluidity of Vegas a lot and the Tactical variation in RS3 was sweet.
