I just helped a friend build a new pc last night and today i'm going over with some software and stuff on a usb stick so he doesn't have to download all of it.
I'm also installing windows 7 on his machine as well.
So far im bringing:
Firefox 3.6

WinRar

Steam

Java

Flash

Avast! Anti virus

Skype

Ventrilo

Spotify

Objectdock + a skin for it

Open Office
What would he need on a clean install? Just for general gaming / some work.
perhaps... utorrent or bit torrent?
and i found vista switcher pretty helpful

I'll take that back as ill have to download the shit at him anyways then.
[editline]03:40PM[/editline]
Okay yeah i put VLC media player in as well and bittorrent, winamp and teracopy.
All set, thanks nonetheless leach.
Also this costs money but it is a very handy program. You get a lot of tools for keeping you computer running well like a registry defragementor. Also more handy tools. Also there might be a free alternative but I have not found it.

In my experience general maintenance utilities like that are usually a waste of time. A small collection of free specialized programs like CCleaner and Defraggler can do pretty much the same thing, and do it better.

I have this and it is pretty awesome it automatically cleans my registry and fixes errors and increases and decreases the priority of programs as they open and close and the usage they get. Try the free trial it is pretty cool.
[editline]12:52PM[/editline]
Also Op you should try the latest chrome.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_google_chrome/
Please people don't turn this into a chrome V firefox thread but op just try it since now they have add ons. Which was one thing stopping a lot of people from using it. If you don't like it switch back.
Rainmeter.
The new teamspeak is pretty niace
MalwareBytes, it is very good, even though you have Avast! on there as well this is a great backup if a virus doesn't allow Avast! to run.

He doesn't like chrome, and i already said "I'm all set" aka i don't need any more suggestions, It's kinda too late now.
microsoft security essentials for the AV instead
7zip instead of winrar.
microsoft security essentials for the AV instead
Avast is better than MSE.
Panda Cloud Antivirus looks interesting, that is, if I used an AV other than the "Well I have 2 hours to spare, lets run Malware Bytes" tactic.
The new teamspeak is pretty niace
No one uses Teamspeak.
No one uses Teamspeak.
Oh he doesn't use it , but hes suggesting it ? Perfect logic, i use teamspeak 3 though.
[editline]04:58PM[/editline]
And you're all bad readers, i said it's too late for any more suggestions anyways.

If you have hosting.
Ventrilo servers cost money.
TS servers are free.
My clan has a dedicated box for servers and we use Teamspeak.
Rainmeter.
Don't install stuff he won't use.

I'm hosting a ventrilo server.
I'm hosting a ventrilo server.
If you don't pay for a license you can only shove 8 people into a ventrilo, but with teamspeak 3 you can get 32 without any license, and with a non profit organisation license, 512.
Yeah getting bittorrent.

I'd suggest using utorrent.
Also, I can't live without http://ivanheckman.com/allsnap/
[editline]01:11AM[/editline]
Also, for image editing software, I'd use the http://www.gimp.org/ or Photoshop.
Even though I use photoshop, I have never found anything that photoshop can do that gimp can't. It just takes a lot of getting use to.

I wouldn't want the all snap. When the warning is.
bWARNING: there is no reason why this should not crash your computer!

I wouldn't want the all snap. When the warning is.
What? I do believe just about every piece of software in the world, has that warning, they just don't declare it like that. Instead, they put it into a 10 paragraph policy that basically says, if this software causes any form of loss it is not our fault.

But when there is a need to post it in bold on the main page I see a problem.

it's Maccabee dumb x 1 and get over it man
All I know is that I've been using it for years, on many computers, and have never had a problem with it.
look up 'Google Pack'
One of the first things I install is the Community Codec Pack. You'll never encounter a video file you can't run again.
