I currently have the 8800GT, and I've had it for about 2 1/2 years, gotten it replaced once.
Currently when I try to play BFBC2 it causes a total system crash, where the graphics will warp, freeze, and the sound will continue playing but the computer will not respond to keystrokes and I have to reboot, it has JUST spread to my other games like Garry's Mod, I started it up, everything was kinda in fullbright but the settings were fine, the shadows were gone, and then after like 2-3 minutes, same sort of freeze.
I just need to know what's good right now that isn't too expensive.
Post a budget and the wattage of your current power supply, we can recommend the video card for you then.

Wattage isn't a concern, I'll be updating my power supply accordingly.
Hopefully a card 200-300, possibly into 400.
I'm looking at the GTX 400 series.
GTX 460, GTX 570, GTX 560 if you can wait a little bit until it comes out.

I may wait for the GTX 560, because that's sounding like a pretty good deal to wait for right now if it REALLY is only supposedly 180 watts.
The lady on the Dell tech support wouldn't believe that I was having a hardware issue and insisted that it was software, so I may be getting one of these cards instead of a replacement 8800gt because Dell tech support can be fucking stupid.
I profited from Dell's stupid support
my 8800GTs died, but then for replacement they sent me GTX 280s. TWO of them

Do you know what specs you had? Like, since my computer can run one 8800GT, could it run one GTX 280?
This was before I knew anything about computers, but I bought a XPS 630i (I think), with q6600, 4GB RAM, 8800GT SLI, and a terrible 750W PSU

Considering this, the price of the 480 is going to fall down. You could wait for that to happen, too.
5850, 6950, 6970, gtx 570
if you are going to play at higher resolutions, go with 69xx otherwise put your money into nvidia

No it's not.
6870

I don't think terrible is a strong enough word for that PSU. I put my two 9800's in SLI and had to underclock them or it would just turn off when I did anything.
Well, looks like I won't be getting a new card after all, all my games are getting graphical glitches and freezing, so we just lied to Dell about reinstalling windows and doing useless bios tests, etc; and it looks like they're going to honor the warranty and send out a new 8800gt (supposedly) and a new motherboard (for no reason).
I'll keep your suggestions in mind though. Thanks guys.

Say that the card you got was a GTX 295 and they'll send in a replacement GTX 295.
you have to send the broken card back so I doubt that'll work
