It is the first time an Arab leader has publicly called for military intervention in Syria. More than 5,000 civilians have been killed since anti-government protests erupted in Syria in March, the UN says. Qatar was the first Arab country to join the Nato-led operation in Libya, which led to the downfall of Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi. It has also led regional criticism of the crackdowns on protesters by President Bashar al-Assad in Syria and in Yemen by President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Asked if he was in favour of Arab nations intervening in Syria, Sheikh Hamad said: "For such a situation to stop the killing... some troops should go to stop the killing." The Arab League has despatched 165 observers to Syria to monitor compliance with a peace plan, but members have expressed doubts as to the mission's efficacy. More than 400 civilians have been killed in Syria since the observers began their mission in December, according to the UN. In Syria, troops backed by tanks are continuing an assault, begun on Friday, on the rebellious mountain town of Zabadani, near the Lebanese border, witnesses say. Reuters news agency quoted an exiled opposition leader as saying 40 people in the town were injured in the fighting on Saturday. Casualty reports are hard to verify because most foreign media are barred from reporting freely in Syria.
(User was permabanned for this post ("Alt of perma'd user yaika" - Orkel))
No you don't, the Arab league can do what they want. Edit: God damn it - I didn't notice he was banned when I replied. I had wondered where yakia had gotten to.
Finally, someone with some sense to stop the killings there.
It's a bit of a waste of effort to reply to him, he's just trolling every time he posts.
Yeah I just realised it was yakia after I posted. Not sure if he is trolling or actually believes what he posts. That's another matter entirely.
Hope some other nations back him up now, maybe they can finally stop this shit from happening
If the Arab League can get on board, then maybe they can settle this without Western assistance. I think that'd be good.
If the West could convince Jordan?
If the Arab League can get on board, then maybe they can settle this without Western assistance. I think that'd be good.
That'd be the best outcome.
I think it would be pretty awesome to see the Arab countries take part in a peacemaking mission, maybe they can start taking care of this stuff rather than western countries intervening.
I've got a very bad feeling about this... Not that it's not a good thing if the AL intervenes, but the fact Russia has been defending Syria recently just gives me that feeling that something might go horridly wrong.

I hope it's like that... I really don't want to have another World War which erupts from the Middle East.
I hope it's like that... I really don't want to have another World War which erupts from the Middle East.
I don't really think the middle eastern countries really have the power to start a world war to be honest.
I don't really think the middle eastern countries really have the power to start a world war to be honest.
They said that about North Korea too.
They said that about North Korea too.
North Korea has never started a world war, in fact they got pushed right back to the Chinese border during the Korean war. Considering most Arab countries only have defense forces and mostly rely on US troops for defense, I'd say they're all fairly harmless.
If they rely on US Troops for defenses isn't it possible that Russia would be limited to a conflict inside of Syria, and therefore creating a Vietnam War scenario? [or Soviet-Afghan War for that matter]
