So there's a kid at my school who used "logic" and "physics" to prove that he can mentally displace his atoms far enough apart to walk through a wall. Does this sound remotely possible (The displacement part) or is he totally stupid?

Technically, it is possible for him all the atoms in his body to disappear and then re-appear on the other side, it is very, very, very unlikely he can control it, he is just a dumbass attention whore.
