SYDNEY: An elderly Australian man serving time for killing his wife and two grandchildren was charged Tuesday (Jan 3) with the murder of a fellow inmate after an apparent attack with a sandwich toaster.
John Walsh, 77, is alleged to have beaten Frank Townsend in their shared cell at a correctional facility for aged prisoners near Sydney. Local reports said he used a sandwich toaster.
A guard was alerted to the injured inmate late Monday after hearing noises coming from their cell.
"The officer switched the cell light on and saw the 71-year-old had been assaulted," a spokeswoman from New South Wales Corrective Services said, adding that Townsend was rushed to hospital but later died.
In 2008, Walsh was sentenced to life in jail for the gruesome murder of his wife and young grandchildren.
Everything is a weapon in upsidedown land
When you live in Australia, you learn to turn everything into a weapon.

I killed a spider with a used bandaid not long back.
Too be fair this wasn't a simple bread toaster. A sandwich toaster is basically a big metal rectangle with a handle for swinging.

Not like it'd be terribly difficult to beat someone to death with a normal bread toaster either. Especially a 71 year old.
Brutal
At what point does letting someone who killed two kids and his wife have a sandwich press with another inmate sound like a sane idea.

How did you do it?
And how big was the spider?
The world must know!

If they're on a solid surface (wall, tiled floor, etc.) I just splatter them with the palm of my hand now. I'm still a huge pussy with spiders, but I'm making progress!

Doesn't matter where you are, seems anything is a weapon

Imagine admitting to murdering friends on the internet.

Spiders will never be friends.

Whitetips, funnel webs, and redbacks are cunts but basically the rest we have here are friends.
Sounds like Frank quite frankly got toasted.

He was murdered with a bludgeon

the same time the prison security guards become enormously complacent
He got the idea from the Stephen King story The Langoliers. Click to see what I mean.
I was amazed to discover that UK inmates in a prison that I worked in had kettles in their cells, imagine the damage you could do with boiling water.
