California’s 12% unemployment rate may be the second-highest in the country, but the Golden State also ranked second for job creation over the last year, reports the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Texas far outpaced all the other states with 269,500 new jobs from July 2010 to last month. California employers added 189,600 new workers while New York was third with 106,600. Indiana was the only state with a major loss of jobs — down 28,300 in the last 12 months.

In percentage terms, North Dakota had the biggest year-over-year boost in employment thanks to its booming oil industry, up 5.2%. Texas was second with a 2.6% increase and Utah ranked third with 2.5%. Indiana had the biggest percentage job loss, falling 1%.
For the month from June to July, New York led the nation in new jobs, adding 29,400 workers. Texas was second with a 29,300 increase over the month followed by Michigan with 29,300. Illinois had the biggest decline, losing 24,900 jobs.
I guess we're not doing that bad over here.
Yea cause mexicans will actually work.
Yay my state.
Wow look at Indiana. I bet there are even worse states than Indiana though.
That's very surprising, considering all the gang banger people over here.
Inb4 someone who has no idea what gang banger means claims this is racist
That's very surprising, considering all the gang banger people over here.
Are you kidding? Nobody is hiring in my town.
Are you kidding? Nobody is hiring in my town.
Must be all them Silicon Valley jobs.
There's a nearby Papa Murphy's that's hiring, so that's neat.
Hooray for CA?
WOAH. What's Ohio doing there? It's depressing as fuck here!
California also has 37,000,000 people
Remember that article talking about how Texas' net job growth was actually negative due to population growth? I wonder what it would say about California.
269,500 jobs created in Texas?
I really need to move to Texas, there's no jobs anywhere here in North Carolina and places are starting to shut down, I'm starting to feel like the state is falling apart.
Texas' numbers are misleading, almost all of that is shitty low-paying jobs. Also they have a bit of a reputation for paying off corporations in other states to close up and move to Texas, so a lot of those jobs are bought at the expense of throwing other people out of work.
Woo. Too bad we're still pretty far in the hole right now though.
Texas' numbers are misleading, almost all of that is shitty low-paying jobs.
Shitty low-paying job is better than no job.
Actually, there was an article a couple weeks ago correcting these numbers by taking in to account other factors like general growth of the labor force and such so as to determine legitimate job growth. Corrected for these other factors, Texas was the worst with negative job growth.
Shitty low-paying job is better than no job.
Shitty low-paying jobs don't do anything to boost the economy, it just condemns more and more people to a life of poverty. By and large very few of the millions of well-paid middle class jobs that were lost in the recession have been replaced. The net effect is millions of people forced into the lower class and greater sums of money flowing to the existing upper class.

Better poor than broke.
This seems fake considering living in California.
Oh wow, I live in Indiana. Nice to know we're losing jobs.
Oh wow, I live in Indiana. Nice to know we're losing jobs.
The American way for the last 10 years, spend yourself into debt with credit cards and losing your job. Not to anyone specific, but just losing your job.

Yep, nice to know our Republican governor is looking out for us. Maybe we can all get jobs at the casinos.

Here's the graph from that thread - California is pretty low on the list.
Wait
Texas
What.
And I am surprised my state is number 2.
It's near impossible to get a job. Even minimum-wage
Wyoming isn't that bad considering it has the lowest population of all states.

Rick Perry keeps bragging about it. The truth is that though they create jobs, the amount of population is growth is far more than job growth, so they're still worse off than most other states.
This is good news for me.
I'm graduating with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 2 semesters.
I don't trust that picture.
It has Michigan at the top, how is that even possible?
If loads of people are leaving a state, then even if no brand new jobs are produced there are more jobs opening up for the people who live in the state.

Maybe lots of people are moving away :v:
