I'd like to say first that I'm far from an expert in computer hardware. I can probably figure out what you're telling me, but keep it in mind.
For the past month or so, I've been getting a really spotty internet connection on my desktop. About every 2-10 minutes, the connection gets dropped for about 10-20 seconds before reconnecting and allowing access to the internet like usual. This makes doing anything that requires me to stay continuously online pretty difficult to do, like playing online games or downloading large files.
Just before this started, my router broke entirely and I haven't had Wi-Fi since. I connected my computer (which already used a wired connection) directly to the modem after that, and my connection actually got slightly faster but with that came the connection drop, which wasn't an issue before. I was thinking it could have something to do with how the computer's no longer connected to a router, but I've been told that likely isn't the issue. I have another computer connected the same way as the affected one, but it doesn't seem to have the connection drop. I've tried using the Ethernet cord from the other PC on the affected computer to see if that has to do with the issue, but that has no effect.
The computer in question's a 2010 HP Pavillion, p6624y model and has some other issues, I initially wasn't thinking any of those could be a cause of it but now I'm wondering. It's mainly performance-related issues, I can elaborate if it would help.
Wait, so you have 2 computers directly connected to the same modem? How so?
If performance is ailing as well I would run an Anti Virus scan

I did a little more research on the device I have, a Ubee DVW32CB, and apparently it's both a modem and a router. The other router I had before was a Belkin N150, similar to this one, but I can't recall the specific model number. When I had the Belkin router everything was connected to it, the Ubee was used solely as a modem. The issue's persisted ever since I had to run everything through the Ubee.

I ran a scan, didn't turn up anything. But it did give me a separate prompt for performance repairs, and I think that helped solve some of my desktop's other issues. Unfortunately, it didn't do anything for the internet connection.
Does your pc notify you that it's not connected to a network at all? or does it stay connected but pages no longer load.
This thread they're having issues with this modem aswell. It's likely that

Usually when I get disconnected, I get the warning icon by the internet connection icon for about five seconds, and another 10 seconds or so I'll have a similar icon with the loading symbol in place of the warning icon.
Pages that were loading when the connection first gets dropped stop loading, giving me a "You are not connected to the internet" message, then usually automatically reload after the connection returns some 15 or so seconds later. I get an equivalent affect when I'm playing a game or something, sometimes the game won't be/have a momentary interruption but much of the time I'm frozen in place for the whole 15 seconds before I can resume playing.
Thanks for linking the other thread, it does look pretty similar. Taking a look at that, I was just thinking, would the lack of an external router be the ultimate issue? If there's a problem with the router portion of the Ubee (which was provided by my cable company), that could explain why the other computer functions with no issues while the other one has the connection problems since there's two PCs running through it. And why I didn't have any issues when I did have the external router.
Okay so it looks like the problem is your modem pay attention to the thing there shold be some lights on it to indicate connection status make sure they stay on the whole time and call your isp if they don't even if they do the connection could be having problems and the connection may need to be repaired.
I checked the lights, they seem normal:

All the lights stay on normally, although the 2.4G and 5G lights flicker sometimes. The TEL2 is off since I don't have anything connected there.
I haven't contacted my ISP yet, I'll probably do that soon. Is there anything else I can try for the meantime?
If your wired direct like I think I read above, and it still drops connection. Demand your ISP send you a new modem as yours is having random dropouts.
You can furthermore diagnose this by using Pingplotter to google or something and waiting until it goes out. If the traceroute stops at 192.168.1.1or w.e then you know the router / modem is ded.
