ESO wasn't overhyped, people expected a bust from announcement and it turned out to be a bust, at least at first. Also there's no No Man's Sky on that list.
replace ESO or crysis with DNF and we're good
The final 3/4 levels were a let down sure, but Crysis was not overhyped. It was, for it's time, fantastic. MGSV though, while It is still my favorite game of 2015 and i had tonnes of fun with it, it was still a let down. That should be on that list.
Fable may of been overhyped but it was still a great game and here I am ten years later playing stuff like Fallout New Vegas because of it, so in my mind something great came out of it on my side. The soundtrack as well was bloody incredible and may of even stole the show in parts.
No mans sky should be on that list. People seem to forget its on PC due to sony putting so much advertising and marketing focus on it.
fallout 4

I would say Crysis is "fantastic" if you missed Far Cry 1 back in the day.
fallout 4
I found the main story of Fallout 4 so dull I immediately went back to New Vegas the moment it finished. It was like jumping into a cool pool on a hot summers day after being left out in it all day, I mean seriously as I loaded it back up it was like joy was returning into my life and even during the intro I could get the sense of more love and care placed into this entire game than I ever got during Fallout 4.
I loved the gameplay from 4. It was by far the best Bethesda has ever done. But the world was too small and few and far between selection of quests.
Fallout 4 had good gameplay but atrocious writing along with a horrendous dialogue system. I could tolerate the bad writing, but the dialogue system really killed the game for me.

They took Spore from me and I will never forgive them

Crysis was a great shooter Far Cry was not
As far as buzzfeed lists go its pretty decent, you can't fit all the of the disappointments in and No Man's Sky isn't out yet.
As far as buzzfeed lists go its pretty decent, you can't fit all the of the disappointments in and No Man's Sky isn't out yet.
Still don't know why the fuck ESO is on here I don't know fucking anyone who was hyped for that shit
half of these titles weren't overhyped, but were stripped of demonstrated features before release
I feel like the thread and the article are operating on two different definitions of 'hype'. The article uses hype to mean big pushes by the marketing department.
half of these titles weren't overhyped, but were stripped of demonstrated features before release
so, overhyped
so, overhyped
There's a difference between something being overhyped and something being stripped of features. Take Spore, as an example. When the game was first announced, people were hyped for what they saw in the trailers, only for the game to be stripped of most of what was shown in the trailers and demonstrations, making people disappointed by what the final product ended up being. That's not getting overhyped, that's being disappointed because the features that were originally announced are no longer present. Now, let's say that, instead, when the announced Spore, it was exactly like it was now, and it got people hyped, then people started expecting more and more stuff from the game, some of which weren't even announced, or the developers were vague on what was in the game, which got people speculating more and more. They're hyping themselves up on a game that will likely have a lot less then they expect. That's overhyping.
How is marketing for a bunch of features that don't exist in the final product NOT overhyping?
How is marketing for a bunch of features that don't exist in the final product NOT overhyping?
Because the feature was announced to be in the product originally.
[sp]but i love spore[/sp]
fallout 4
only problem with this is people expect bethesda to tell good stories, i never went into it hopping for a super sweet and immersive story with rich characters and dialogue honestly this is a mistake to anybody expecting anything story-wise from them, to me FO4 was a good game, not a good fallout game but a good game you ignore the story, and the mechanics, gameplay + everything else is perfectly fine imho
still doesn't excuse the shit story though
doesnt excuse one, but you shouldnt expect one, if you're no stranger to bethesda games that my son is your mistake tbh story in oblivion sucked, story in fallout 3 sucked, story in skyrim sucked, the portrayal and dialogue of it all why expect anything different in fallout 4? you're just letting yourself down honestly
Fallout 4's writing is terrible on a how new level because of how badly a lot of the quests are written, the main quest is just icing on my shit sandwich. The dialogue is horrible in every single one of them, you can't exploit any of your characters strengths and solve a quest multiple ways like 1/2/NV (and even 3 in some of them) and theirs tons of inconsistencies. Like for example ghouls are just immortal beings that don't require food or water anymore. The writing in Ob/3 was never going to win any awards but it could at least hold the game up Then you got the Main quest which takes away one of the best things about these games. Your backstory or who you are isn't defined by you anymore but your concern for your son.
If you buy a bethesda game for the story then I have news for you buddy...
