The legality of an individual discriminating against a certain group - General

Hi there, I'd like to talk about something today. This is a public highschool. Recently, my best friend asked our administrator if she could start the GSA (gay straight alliance) back up again this year (it got shut down last year because nobody joined it). She has all the neccesary support with alot of people who are willing to join. Our administrator declined. I don't know the reason he gave, it's probably something along the lines of "No educational value" or some shit like that, but the main reason is either he's homophobic, or he doesn't want to suffer the backlash of our conservative homophobic community (which i think is bs, fuck the general public opinion) What troubles me isn't whether or not there's educational value, what troubles me is that our school has a Bible club, a Muslim Student Association, a "super smash" club (you play super smash bros. brawl after school with a bunch of your friends), a SISTER club (a club for black women), an Asian Awareness Association, and an Anime club. It's up for debate whether those have REAL educational value or not, but that's besides the point. The point is: If he's going to approve a club where you can play videogames at school for 2 hours afterschool, shouldn't you be obligated to approve a GSA? And a BIBLE club, doesn't that set off a few alarms that maybe our administrator is a bit biased? So, facepunch, I'm not asking if it IS legal, i'm asking if you THINK this should be lawful to do or not. Me? fuck no. I hate my Administator. The guy doesn't do shit around the school, and it pisses me off that he can discriminate against people if he just doesn't like them. [editline]edit[/editline] Rate me gaybow

Not that I'm against the your club, you should have it by any rights, but what would you actually do with that kind of club anyway? It would be like the Westboro Baptist Church and a gay pride protest at the same time, I can't really see you getting anything accomplished.

Start secret club within the bible club. Put papers in the bibles to make it seem as if you are studying it, but you are readying daily quota. Pretty much invade some other club and secretly take over.

What exactly would the club activities be?

Tell your principle that you will have the authorities involved, because it is basically discrimination against gays. Or take the less hostile route and tell him that schools with a GSA club tend to be looked upon in a good light. Might work when you're looking for funding.. (insert cough cough nudge nudge here)

Some of the other clubs can apply to a huge majority in schools, the bible one for an example. but GSA clubs usually end up kids getting labeled as a fag or a fag lover. I don't see how it could be illegal unless he said "Fuck no I hate those gat dayum faggots with their rights n shit".

If they got a bible club but not are denying a LGBT club you should hit up the superintendent of your school district. That should set things straight.

It's not going to do shit and nobody's going to join it, that's why your administrator doesn't want you to start it. Stop thinking everyone in some position of authority is out to get you, because they're fucking not, and, knowing you, it's most likely a waste of effort.

You can't have a club with only three people, and the President (if you have one; he's the student elected to organize events and shit for everyone and makes sure nothing conflicts) doesn't want to deal with every fucking subject under the sun. Religion is a popular thing, and there are apparently enough female African Americans that like to read to form a club.
