Looking for broader remedies to gun violence, Vice President Joe Biden is reaching out to the video game industry for ideas as the White House seeks to assemble proposals in response to last month's massacre at a Connecticut elementary school.
Biden is scheduled to meet with video game representatives Friday as the White House explores cultural factors that may contribute to violent behavior.
The vice president, who is leading a task force that will present recommendations to President Barack Obama on Tuesday, met with other representatives from the entertainment industry, including Comcast Corp. and the Motion Picture Association of America, on Thursday.
Friday's meeting comes a day after the National Rifle Association rejected Obama administration proposals to limit high-capacity ammunition magazines and dug in on its opposition to an assault weapons ban, which Obama has previously said he will propose to Congress. The NRA was one of the pro-gun rights groups that met with Biden during the day.
In previewing the meeting with the video game industry, Biden recalled how the late Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York lamented during crime bill negotiations in the 1980s that the country was "defining deviancy down."
It's unclear what, if anything, the administration is prepared to recommend on how to address the depiction of violence in the media.
And I'm going to have a meeting with auto-mobile manufacturers about cyber crime.
Video games don't cause violence. The mentally ill and criminals cause do.
I swear biden wants us to hate him.
People with preexisting violent tendencies may be drawn to violent video games, but people who play violent video games don't develop violent tendencies.

Who exactly "represents" video games?
Call of duty modern water pistol warfare 4

Biden looks like a twat in that image.
I don't see the point in censoring guns in games... Space Invaders and whatnot involve shooting? You can't censor something so common.
It's not the weapons in video games, it's the shooter's fault for going on such a rampage. You can't bring peace just by getting rid of a component in a video game.
And then we'll censor this medium because, 'Gasp! It's interactive!' so are we going to ban airsoft and paintball as well? Or have I spoke too soon?

Don't give them ideas!
How about you limit the amount of violence in television, movies, comics and literature as well then?
Really, why should they be treated any differently?
No, this is good. "Video game representatives" will challenge him and say that no, video games don't cause gun violence, and he'll hopefully learn something. He's presenting his findings to Obama, and if he says video games don't cause gun violence, nothing will happen.

I can only hope for the best of this, but if I start seeing sparkles and teddybears over headshots, I'll be confused.

New media is evil.

Gaben on the white-colored side of the table and Kotick on the red-colored side.
This guy sums it up well:
Joe Biden wants to meet with video game developers about gun control. This is like meeting with Hot Wheels about car safety.
and i'm going to have a meeting with zoologists about neopets.
I hope all this shit they do falls on them, then everyone can laugh and say how fucking stupid we are as a whole for such a shitty knee-jerk reaction.
Give him a replica lancer and a beer, problem solved. Biden is a champ.
I wish people would stop using bullshit as an excuse and focus on the one god damn thing that does cause this shit. Fucking mental health.
I thought Biden was cool, but that opinion is changing pretty rapidly.
I like this guy. He has a nice looking face
when will they understand that it's all about parents. they need to know what games they play, movies and shows they watch, and music to listen to. you can't get around that

You wouldn't download a car
Thank god that games have first amendment protection now. This outrage and blaming games seems to have gotten out of hand, with the whole burning violent video games thing that was in the news recently.
So, free speech is being thrown out the window. Theres a fucking reason theres a rating on the box warning about violence. If you don't want to have your kids playing violent video games fucking monitor the shit. Jesus christ, why does it always come back to video games?

You say that as if a politician with an agenda doesn't already have a plan on what they're going to say/recommend in mind, and simply entertains these kinds of meetings to maintain a "positive public image".
