Tehran, Iran (CNN) -- Iran is prepared to resume talks over its nuclear program but will wait until late August as punishment for recently imposed U.N. sanctions, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Monday.
The outcome of the talks will depend on whether Western powers hold Israel to the same standards over its nuclear program, Ahmadinejad said at a news conference.
"Western countries have no problems with Israel's nuclear bombs," Ahmadinejad said.
The U.N. Security Council imposed additional sanctions on Iran in early June, expanding an arms embargo and tightening restrictions on financial and shipping enterprises related to "proliferation-sensitive activities."
The 12-2 vote with one abstention came after the United States and other Security Council members expressed their concern over Iran's lack of compliance with previous U.N. resolutions on ensuring the peaceful nature of the nation's nuclear program.
The resolution on further sanctions was introduced by France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. Brazil and Turkey voted against the measure and Lebanon abstained.
The United States pressured some nations to vote against Iran, Ahmadinejad said at Monday's news conference.
The Security Council also asked the U.N. secretary-general to create a panel of experts to monitor implementation of the sanctions.
Iran has disavowed any intentions of developing nuclear weapons and says its program is for peaceful purposes.
"Western countries should put their bullying policies aside," Ahmadinejad said Monday.
The Iranian president questioned the motives of the United States and others who want negotiations. And he discounted that concerns over Iran's nuclear ambitions are the sole reason for the sanctions.
"They would have found another pretext if it wasn't for the nuclear pretext," he said.
I don't know why he even bothers. It's already known that regardless of whatever the fuck he does, Iran will still gets bullied and get all these sanctions placed on it, even though they have not violated not one single IAEA protocol.
I have actually gained some respect for Iran.
Despite being slapped with sanctions constantly, even the last time they said they would do this, they are still willing to negotiate.
Still ain't chuffed with their theocratical regime though :colbert:
I thought Obama said it from the title
yes because obama is the only president on the planet
They are winning time. They know that at any time america may collapse because of economic or environmental problems. Even if they are attacked they won't do anything.

You're kidding right.
Really, America isn't dying any time soon.
And this shit was going on before the fucking oil spill.

It's not dying but it's slowly losing its position as world leader. Many people say China for example will soon be the financial leader, and this could open a lot of opportunities for them (they also have one of the strongest armies in the world).

Doesn't China rely heavily on US business anyway?

Yeah, that's why I said "some people say", and "in a few years". It's not certain but if you look at their financial growth, versus the US' decline due to the recession, it's a possibility.
It's the cycle of the world, countries take centre stage and lose centre stage cause without a doubt something happens to push them out of the limelight, I think America will lose power, but it wont crumble and wither like some people seem to be saying, it would take something spectacular for America to nose dive like that, at worst it'll become a less powerful version of itself.

Exactly.
It would be more of "other nations rising" and less of "America falling".

Just like Britain, and it's even still considered a major world power.
Well, China just passed USA and Germany in leading exports in the past 6 months or so.
I don't think the US will last another 50 years. Call me pessimistic, but the future generation is a load of shit, we're 16.5 trillion in debt and growing, and we are still getting involved in too much international conflict. The US doesn't have the resources to remain a super power. In my opinion, it's either going to step down or collapse.
The national power of the world will boil down to whoever controls the market, in this case, China.

To be fair - almost every generation thinks that the next generation will be shit.
Also, we've changed the subject of the discussion right here on page 1. I'm kinda doing the same accidentally on another thread, so we can just discuss it in a relevant thread if there is any.

Yeah that's what i'm saying.
Unless there's a plague or famine or war that reduces America's population drastically it'll always hold some power thanks to the size of its army/population just like the russians around WW1.
And Britain is only considered a major world power cause we are Americas bum chum it's about time this was realised and accepted.
Think about it, for most shit Britain ain't leading, we have a microscopic army, our government is populated by retards and fucking technologically backwards fucking coma victims and the vast majority of our population consists of degenerate arse holes.
We hold power for the simple reason America took a liking to us probably thanks to history.

China won't become the financial leader I don't know why people still believe in this fallacy.
Their current economic upward trend won't continue unless it makes some major changes.

Yes, however most people unreasonably think it's the other way around.
If the U.S was ever seriously threatened by China they could begin a trade war that would cripple China's economy.
