The Lion King was released in 1994 and it is one of my favorite movies ever, it practically shaped my childhood.
I wont post the plot because im sure a lot of people know it, also if you do not know it, watch the movie!
The music in this movie is pure motherfucking magic, i honestly get goosebumps from the Swedish dub of 'circle of Life' it won several awards because of the soundtrack, but also for the near perfect voice acting (Darth Vader is in it!!!!) check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_lion_king#Awards_and_nominations for a complete list of awards and nominations.

the movie also spawned the epitome of comedy, i am talking of course of the Timon & Pumbaa series.
A word of warning too first time viewers though, try to find the original cut, the other editions have added scenes or songs that almost ruins scenes.
Circle of life SuperSpecialSwedishVersion, honestly better than the original

After watching the Team Fortress parodies it struck me just how good of a movie this actually is. They don't call it Disneys best for nothing. I was appalled to find they changed shit around since the original though. It's like Star Wars Special Edition all over again. I'd love to rewatch it on Blu-ray or something, but I'm not sure I could stand watching something that didn't coincide with my memory, is the original cut available in any form?
I remember watching it in the cinema, best cinema in the country too. 1994? Jesus I must have been 4-5 years old. And I had to lie that I was 7 to get in. The ticket man must have been an idiot

Wow that Swedish dub isn't too bad actually, it sounds exactly like the Danish one anyway. Heck, wouldn't be surprised if it's the same singer. That's what they did with The Little Mermaid IIRC.
Back when Scandinavia could dub.
Having heard the original version of be prepared in Nostalgia Critics top 11 villian songs, I must say I prefer the Danish version, Scar sounds far more cunning and sly, and it seems to have some of that power NC was missing.

Disney should make more 2D classics like this. I can't believe they made two sequels to this. Well one of them are a prequel actually
@ BmB Disney showed some bluray clips of the movie at some expo, though i am sure it will be the newer, shittier cut.
As far as i know the old one is only available on VHS/VHS rips :(
Ah well, good thing I have that lying around somewhere then. Just would be awesome to see it in high quality without PAL speedup.
My favorite animated disney movie.
I'm curious what was changed in the recent re-releases?
Improved graphics I guess
Ah, Wikipedia says the DVD has the original cut available as a choice, so presumably any Blu-ray release will feature the same thing. Good times.

Well for one thing a new song is added when Zazoo gives his morning report (its horrible), some lines are replaced, i think there was some recoloring done which is outrageous imo.
I don't mind simple updated visuals. Especially in animation where such a thing is simply more animation and not CGI bullshit. I do mind changing the action around and introducing scenes, or worse shitty songs that weren't there before. As nice as they sound, most Disney movies really don't need anymore bloody songs.
i used to watch this all the time as kid

Why would they do this T_T
Because that song was in the Broadway version, written by Elton John. They cut it out of the movie because it was unneeded. In the recent re-released DVD of the movie, they added it into the special features. It's not featured in the actual movie though. You have to go to the extra stuff on the DVD to see it.
Actually it was cut into the movie, at least when i watched it.
This was the shit back when I was a kid. This and the SNES game. Good times.

Scar was a great leader.
Yeah I know, excelled at resource management in particular.
It was a great movie but the sequel was unnecessary.
This is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Truly one of the best.
This and Toy Story were the movies I grew up on.
I still have a framed poster hanging in my room. And i sure as hell am not going to take it down.
I used to also have a huge poster but it kept falling from the strips it was supported in.
I was like 5 when i saw this. Perfect age to see something amazing like The Lion King. At 5 years old you start memorizing special events.
2D movies, like this one, have a certain feel to them. Probably because you can clearly see all the work they put into it.
i loved the first one. the second one was ok but imo i think to much singing.

I wish Disney would go back to the way it was, and it's not "just us growing up".
My mom said to me on the way out from Toy Story 3 that Pixar is starting to turn into 90s Disney.

Lets hope so, some of us were extremely lucky and grew up during the disney rennaissance, other generations, not so much
Yeah man who wouldn't want to grow up on shitty direct to video sequels and bad 3D? I wish I'd been born later. :P
I could've sworn somebody would mention Kimba the white lion in this thread...
