Since when did all this "shack news" bullshit materialise?
It's all bullshit when it changes, like when RPS came in.

Thing I liked better about RPS though was that it was much more opinionated and thus more interesting to read.
I find ShackNews' monotony and lack of bias disturbing.
I found RPS had a ton of stupid catch phrases designed to please to the idiots in their fan base. They also were quick to fear monger on pretty much anything that they didn't like. They had some good articles, and I liked how their reviews didn't have a hard number from 1-10 associated with them, but I still liked CSnation better. You knew that it wasn't just some dude with no passion for game journalism writing behind a desk, because he put some snippets of commentary here and there, as well as regularly posting on the boards in person. But it wasn't blatant pandering with dumb ass things like "man shoots", minecraft dick suckery, etc.

Maybe there should be an opinion site as well as a straight news site.
RPS felt much more personal than this.
Personality and humor don't matter much to me. I look for news, not guff.
Though CSNation will still be my favorite.
Rockpapershotgun was interesting because the bias would create discussion. That's what it's meant to do. Unfortunately, now they they're gone, most of the discussion is on about them being gone.
Uh, why are people pissed off about this?
They didn't announce it before release, and it's singleplayer, which no developer does anymore for DLC, except Bethesda.
Because the SP DLCs for Assassin's Creed 2 suuuuucked
Oh and also because it's really fucking stupid to put the most potentially interesting character of the entire series apart for the entire game and force people to spend more money on DLC if they want to actually see what happens to him.
Where are they going to continue anything? Ezio is done, unless they shoehorn some unneccesary crap. Some more as desmond might be interesting, but I doubt they'll do anything with him until 3.
[editline]15th February 2012[/editline]
Wait, just reread the post, missed the bit about desmond's journey. I hope thats not it. Those bits were nice for the backstory, but I just found some of them irritating. Same point I made earlier, they wrapped up pretty well too

They should have kicked Ezio out of the scene after the second game and focus more on Altair/Desmond/That ancient rome guy who's being developed in the comics.
Ezio is a really boring uninspired character in my opinion. He barely even respects the creed, is often very annoying and the devs tried way to hard to make him sound and act like a badass. It was interesting to see him evolve from a fiery young man to a wiser, older individual through assassin's creed 2, but Brotherhood was already pushing it a bit too far and Revelation just threw the shit over the edge.
I seriously preferred Altair's very short appearances in Revelations to Ezio's constant bragging and uninteresting story. Seeing Altair getting old, being able to still be a badass assassin while so old and [sp]dying in his library like a boss[/sp] was much more emotional and interesting than dealing with Ezio for the rest of the game.
As for Desmond, he really is of a misused potential. They could have done so much with that character and they ended up using him as a tool to show off more of Ezio, while even the story that was written for the game goes toward Desmond.
And I'm still pissed off by the fact the dev team said they would not release any new AC after the second game for a while until they get enough material to work on AC3, and a mere year after assassin's creed 2, what do we get ? Brotherhood then Revelations.
They really fucked up desmonds face.
They really fucked up desmonds face.
You mean Adam Sandler's face.

I wouldn't put it like this, but agree. RPS had all the facts and source citations you can skim over if you're after the core information, but also a "personal" side that sparked discussion and made it more human and appealing without becoming sensationalist. Mostly. Often. Once in a blue moon.
They really fucked up desmonds face.
When I played the previous ACs I kept wishing I could play as Desmond, AC2 and BroHood allowed that but when I put in my Revelations disk I just wished that I'd be stuck as Ezio as much as possible because of the face. :(

Yeah I hate not having to wade through bias and crying about consoles to find out if a game I'm wanting to put money down for is worth it.
They should have
Eh, Altair is generic stoic badass flavor and Ezio is generic womanizer badass flavor in my opinion. But at least Ezio had a personality to speak of, Ezio was pretty 2D by comparison. Ezio has a complete backstory and set of character relationships whereas Altair in gameplay is mostly an impatient "trigger-happy" guy. We later get a couple of highlights in his life but even then his actions counted, not his actual personality (which was kinda the generic grown-to-a-wise-man type).
Desmond, in my opinion, is a bland character through and through and his backstory didn't really change that for me (tho I guess it was nice to be told about). He just kind of gets thrown around by the plots of others, which makes him very uninteresting as a playable character in my opinion, so I'm perfectly fine to use the Animus as an excuse to switch up locations and gameplay with each iteration of the franchise.
But yeah, UbiSoft is known for milking franchises as long as it can and once they struck a cord with Ezio they showed that. Poor devs had to bloat the game with new features to make the game relevant for a purchase while technically adding nothing interesting to the story. And even gameplay-wise ACB felt like a beta for ACR.
I'd actually like them to show both sides of the conflict and give us a Templar perspective next - it could deliver puzzle pieces the Assassin's can't possibly know about, is possible to do in-universe and allows more narrative possibilities in general while allowing to recycle stuff from the other games if necessary (tho of course I'd prefer a new story with a new time period and location - which would also change the weapons and by extension gameplay possibilities). The finale could deliver an interesting choice to make since you now know both sides of the story.
I mean, losing your individuality in one collective hivemind isn't exactly great, but it could bring peace and deep understanding of each other and allow us to achieve something impossible if we keep bickering over nonsense until we wipe ourselves off the planet with nukes. Shouldn't be hard for a writer to make the assassin's look like Chaotic Evil and the templars as the good guys, tho most people will probably still root for the womanizer and the underdogs.
