Frank, 69, and Wilma, 65, said they "had nothing to lose" when Frank was told in May 2010 that he had just months to live, the New Zealand Herald reports. The couple, who did not want their surname disclosed, went on a lavish holiday to Fiji and Australia, sold their house at a loss of $70,000 and cancelled their health insurance. But 23 months after doctors diagnosed Frank, the Wairoa-based couple were told it was actually an error. Frank had already experienced a brush with cancer when he had part of his lung removed. But when he started to get chest pains after chemotherapy, more tests were carried out and Frank was told the cancer had spread to his heart. The couple said they created the bucket list thinking Frank’s life insurance would cover the costs. They are now reportedly $80,000 in debt. "What would you do in this situation? If he said jump I would jump ... I was putting him first, whatever he wanted, he got,” Wilma said. Frank had another ultrasound in December last year, which cleared him of cancer, but it wasn’t until his hospice carer came for his monthly check up in February that the error was revealed. The couple said they don’t know why the hospital didn’t inform them earlier. "The consensus at the time from all the doctors, including the oncologist involved in Frank's care, was that, sadly, there was a high likelihood or little doubt of a recurrence of the lung cancer," Hawke's Bay Hospital respiratory physician Dr Rob Armstrong said in a statement. "In this instance, thankfully, we were wrong but we can't yet rule out a recurrence of cancer in the future."
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/8485284/nz-couple-80k-in-debt-after-bucket-list-mistake Well if you looked at it in a positive manner, they got to do their bucket list.

wasn't there a queen latifah movie with this plot
Going to fiji and australia kinda seems like a lame bucket list imo, why not go on an a eurotrip or something and experience heaps of cultures before you die or something like that.
wasn't there a queen latifah movie with this plot
Last Holiday. Except of course she got a fairy tale ending.
It's clear what they have to do. They have to kill themselves.
No, pretty sure they could sue the doctor/hospital for malpractice.
Bucket list.. what a grim name. I think I'd like to go skydiving or something. From the top of the atmosphere. Actually, what I really want to do before I die is stand on the surface of the Moon and look back at the Earth. That is a view that you simply cannot forget.
No, pretty sure they could sue the doctor/hospital for malpractice.
that would be in incredibly bad taste. alot of the time it's pretty difficult to tell what exactly someone has, and false flags can lead to doctors having to make rash important decisions.
Pretty sure you can't even sue like that over here anyway Like nobody sues anyone I don't even know if you can sue in new zealand
Actually, what I really want to do before I die is stand on the surface of the Moon and look back at the Earth. That is a view that you simply cannot forget.
I think the moon would be a pretty cool place to go, especially to die there. you're far away from everyone else, you've got time to think, and there's nobody to judge what conclusions you come to. it's such an alien kind of release to feel, to know how alone you are, and to be free for once in your life. it's suffocating, almost - not the lack of air, but the stillness. to feel as if everything's stopped. even Earth is totally static, as if the troubles are finally over, like the world is ending with you. and, you know, if you look up, deep into space, you might not even realize the difference between when your eyes were open and when they had finally shut.
except for the fact you would see stars when your eyes are open And the reflection of light from the moon
Bucket list.. what a grim name.
Think of the phrase 'to kick the bucket'.
I thought you couldn't see the stars from the surface of the moon.
That was just their high-speed cameras .
I think you have to view them from the total dark side, as in not facing the sun or the earth.

cook blue crystal meth
You know what they say, 'assumption is the mother of all fuck ups'.
To be fair, that would be like going to your mechanic to fix a critical part of your car, having him say he did the work and send you on your way, and you crash and get into an accident because he didn't actually fix the right part, and then saying "assumption is the mother of all fuck ups" this was a diagnosis by a paid professional.

You then proceed to go on street racing with that car thinking it's going to be destroyed anyway, and when it finally is damaged beyond repair, the mechanic tells you there was nothing wrong after all.
