Kayla Finley, 27, had visited a police station to report a crime, only to find a warrant for her arrest had been issued in 2005, when she was 18. Ms Finley had rented a VHS copy of romantic comedy Monster In Law, starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda. According to local television station Fox Carolina, Ms Finley was "shocked and disgusted" at the arrest. On the channel's Facebook page, Ms Finley wrote: "I went to the police station to press charges of harassment and stalking. Not once did I ever receive anything regarding this . If I had, it would have been taken care of immediately. "This is a bogus charge and everyone knows it." Her comment drew support from other online commenters. "Kayla, this is absolutely ridiculous!" wrote Latisha Hensley, also from South Carolina. "What a waste of everyone's time and money."
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-26225971 The real crime is that she borrowed Monster In Law.
If they can arrest people for late book returns to the library, this isn't surprising at all then.
If they can arrest people for late book returns to the library, this isn't surprising at all then.
I've got an overdue library book that was meant to be returned in 1959, so I'm probably fucked if the library found out.
With a taste in movies like that, I'm surprised it didn't turn into an extrajudicial execution.

The real crime is that she rented a VHS in 2005.
A long while ago I rented a couple of N64 games. The blockbuster had closed before the return date.
One could say that the arrest was long overdue.
One could say that the arrest was long overdue.
Arrest the arrest.
Arrest the arrest.
Even the arrest gets in trouble
She was charged with "failure to return rented video cassette" and will appear in court at a later date.
the real question is, what kind of dick puts out an arrest warrant for a 20$ tape? seriously, if she had avoided it for another 5 years the statute of limitations would have covered her
I feel like the arresting officers should have maybe tried to use a little common sense here.
Oh man, I always thought this was an urban legend. I hope Videoland isn't still hunting down their betamax copy of Beverly Hills Cop.
I don't like the fact that she went to press harrassment and stalking charges and this happened. The police should deal with that first.

It's happened to a few of my friends.

I'm honestly terrified that I'll be denied for a loan every time because of a 10 dollar charge from 2005.

If you are then once it's paid off your credit will correct itself pretty quickly, really doesn't take that long.

The second one was more of an accident because I accidentally mixed the game up with a copy of the demo I got from a magazine. The disk art was strikingly similar, and I only found out after the rental store had closed.

You know those huge inflatable jump houses? My family rented one for my birthday; very next day, the company spontaneously went out of business and never came to pick it up. It was great. I still have Pete the big green dinosaur around here somewhere.

The irony of this is that the late fee will be higher than the original cost of the video.
Is that how your parents explained that one to you?
Hah, nah. We made multiple calls to them and left messages and they never came. I've checked online a few times in my life too, there's no record of them existing past ~2003.
Made me think of the beginning of this.
Blockbuster called one of my friends like two or so years ago asking him to return a copy of Dino Crisis 2 that he rented when he was like 7. He said "come get it" and hung up.
