I'm actually glad about the result, because a party (Labor, Greens too) shouldn't deserve to win an election when the entirety of its campaigning is simply attacking the other side. Sure, the Liberals made attacks on the competency of the Labor leader every now and then, but they actually campaigned their policies for if they won the election.

Liberals are the conservative party of Australia and position themselves as centre-right
you must be getting confused by "liberals = left wing"
