"Pity poor Battleborn, a good game that did some interesting things with the hero shooter genre, that got stomped into the ground for its troubles." yea no.
"Pity poor Battleborn, a good game that did some interesting things with the hero shooter genre, that got stomped into the ground for its troubles." yea no.
but battleborn actually is fun it didn't deserve to have someone as incompetent as gearbox behind it
but battleborn actually is fun it didn't deserve to have someone as incompetent as gearbox behind it
I mean I guess you could say that, but I know that pc gamer was blaming overwatch for it, especially since they link to an article about that. Basically saying that battleborn did everything right but the gaming community/blizzard killed it.

They should have waited releasing it for a ½ year or so.
Watching videos of Battleborn gameplay is actually sickening. It's extremely busy and oversaturated. I think that's the biggest issue with it, it's not visually accessible at all.
It wasn't a bad game, just badly maintained and ran. I think the concept is good it just needs the right devs to do it.
Look at the bright side, it did better than Lawbreakers! (sort of)
What the hell is "Lawbreakers"?
Battleborn could've made a killing if it just went F2P right from the start and sold cosmetics
Battleborn could've made a killing if it just went F2P right from the start and sold cosmetics
Killing may be a stretch, but it could have done much better. Could even still be alive.
There was a graph I saw a while back of the amount of people playing as it took me longer to get into games, and it all of a sudden dropped but I am not really sure what caused the sudden drop of players.
I can't believe that Randy finally gave up. I was thinking he'll try to sell his "awesome game" for at least one more year.
I think this is what Gearbox has turned into; they basically don't seem to understand (or maybe just don't care) about quality and doing something in a serious, proffessional way. It's something that they've done with Duke Nukem, Borderlands and Battleborn. Duke Nukem was originally supposed to be a parody of over-the-top action movies and how generally absurd the protagonists there were. Gearbox decided to turn the character into basically a parody of himself, where silly, nonsensical, random 'humour' is now what he's all about, missing the original intent of the character. That's not just with Duke Nukem Forever as that wasn't entirely their fault, but the Bulletstorm pack shows how they treat him now; he's commenting on everything in a way that makes no sense, saying random 'funny' things all the time and generally being all over the place in tone. Borderlands - same situation there. The original was an insane, dangerous-feeling place. You had some strange characters but it felt like a pretty coherant, crazy world overall - things didn't make complete sense, but its portrayal of things wasn't too over the top. Borderlands 2 turned that into silly, wacky meme-fuel characters everywhere, where the whole point of the place is to spout random silly humour constantly as if it isn't capable of being serious. Battleborn is the same. What could have been a serious, well-made setting with deep, varied characters instead ended up being more along the lines of "shove memes in and make it all as obnoxious as possible". From what i remember of the beta nearly every character had a non-sensical design or gimmick attached, and utterly stupid dialogue to some extent. It doesn't come across as a parody, or like it's making fun of anything, it just comes across as poor writing. It's like they don't understand how to be subtle and do something without going too far with it.
What the hell is "Lawbreakers"?
Exactly
I thought it was hot garbage so good riddance to me.
And why did you think that?
And why did you think that?
I don’t wanna get to into it but, the maps were unbelievably bland and sometimes an eye sore because of the visual design. Also the characters were forgettable and they’re abilities were dull. I never had fun, or felt like this game had any design behind it
tbh they should have embraced the meme status of their dead game and pandered to the contrarian audience. i think they would've carved some community out of it then. instead the only thing about the PR side of this game i remember was randy complaining on twitter about it, while at the same time insisting it was a fine, fun game that lots of people played. also he posted that there was porn about it at one point so that was weird.
I'm happy this game bombed so hard. Revenge for Gearbox fucking up Aliens CM so badly. Look at what they tried to pull of with Brothers in Arms as well before leaving that series to die.
For what it's worth they've been treating Homeworld quite well. Mind that I'm saying this before Homeworld:Pandora written by Anthony Burch happens.
Man, nothing will ever be enough Karma for Colonial Marines. Phantasy Star Online 2's localization budget (as well as for other Sega games) was to be drawn from Colonial Marines' profits. I know, shitty planning on Sega's part to make localizations of unrelated games codependent on the performance of a 3rd-party game, but, well... SEGA™ So go fuck right off at your earliest convenience, Randy.
You deserve this Randy.

Many decisions they made with the remastered version were just absurd and not a good thing at all. The most beneficial thing they did was package the games together with new graphics (which are great), but that came at the cost of a somewhat worse gameplay experience, at least for HW1.
