• Link teased to not be hero in new Legend of Zelda game
There are two plausible paths Nintendo could go for a female protagonist: a female incarnation of Link, which would still fit the Zelda universe; or Zelda herself (Sheik also wore blue), finally getting to be the hero of the game that was named for her. This explanation may be the more likely one; as Aonuma said to Venturebeat, "No one explicitly said that that was Link".
http://www.cnet.com/news/the-legend-of-zelda-wii-u-has-nintendo-made-link-a-girl/
Maybe the Legend of Zelda will actually have Zelda as the protagonist.

It's not too outlandish to say that the prophecies said that the next hero of time was a girl or something, I think.
I'd be fine with a female Link or being Zelda.

Well there was that one time he had pink hair so things change every era, I guess.
It's apparently the child of Link and Zelda, and he's jerk to his mom.. And his nickname at the moment is Victor. Legend of Victor: King of Jerks (saw that info on a post on /v/ and a few other places)
The title is very misleading. “No one explicitly said that that was Link.” was what Aonuma said, referring to the character on the trailer. We don't even know if that's the main character of the game.

Playing as a female character sounds nice. Would make for a refreshing change. After all we've been playing as the exact same character for several games now.

[t]http://www.kasuto.net/twilight_princess/official_art/tp_art_link03.jpg[/t] And here is another Link character clad in blue and here is another Link in white and Wind Waker's Link also wore blue I highly doubt they've changed things around. It's been Link every single game since the start. But the more I look it, the more I start to see the femininity in "Link." S/he even has some "development" befitting of a young woman.
This E3 just left me more confused than ever about what Zelda Wii U is going to be like.
It has laser shooting octo-spiders and bows from the future, that's all that matters.
no
I hope it's not true. Sounds pretty stupid. [editline]11th June 2014[/editline] Unless the whole child thing is true and we get have some slight character customization, like minor appearance stuff and personality.

Reminds me of way back when someone drew up concept art of a steampunk styled Legend of Zelda game, where Link was instead a prince who needed to be rescued and Zelda was a war mage who would be the hero of the story.
Nah it's male Link. Nintendo has stuck to the formula and won't change it for no reason.
Is it totally out of the realm of possibility for s/he to be an NPC? That's not a new thing, you know, trailers not featuring player characters.
we will finally find out the answer to the question "what if zelda was a girl"
Nah it's male Link. Nintendo has stuck to the formula and won't change it for no reason.
I don't know. if I was a game producer of a venerated series I wouldn't go like "Nobody said it wasn't Link" and then go "Nah it really is Link I was fucking with you, you assholes should have seen the looks on your faces."
Nah it's male Link. Nintendo has stuck to the formula and won't change it for no reason.
the whole entire point of this game in the series is to challenge/change the formula.
Nah it's male Link. Nintendo has stuck to the formula and won't change it for no reason.
Hey, after A Link Between Worlds tried to expand non-linear dungeon approaches abit and this game's going a more open-world route than normal, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo decided to switch things up. Anything can happen with this game.
So,
No one explicitly said that that was Link
automatically means
Link isn't the protagonist

I don't know if I was a game producer of a venerated series I wouldn't go like "Nobody said it wasn't Link" and then go "Nah it really is Link I was fucking with you, you assholes should have seen the look on your faces."
Nintendo are always tight lipped about any detail on their games. They have never confirmed details for games that were in development. Other big game producers like Hideo Kojima have always made shit up to confuse their fans. And a smaller one from From Software literally said an item from Dark Souls was there literally so people would spend years trying to figure out what it did, when it really does nothing. And sorry if I caused confusion about what I said. I meant change the forumula as in changing the story not gameplay. It's been pretty much the same since Zelda came out on the NES. Combat and gameplay mechanics have always changed and that's not a bad thing.
Link has had pink hair before. Compared to that, this looks pretty masculine to me.
No one explicitly said that that was Link
dont you fuck with me Aonuma
Well there was that one time he had pink hair so things change every era, I guess.

Link has had pink hair before.
Link never had pink hair. His hair (i always assumed it was the rim of his hood as a kid) is pink because his sprite shares the colour palette of his Dark World rabbit form. Here's some of the official artwork.
