[release]This thread is part of a series of similar threads, all of which are meant to be a safe haven for all artists, no matter if you're unsure of your ability and don't want to make a thread, are lazy and don't want to make a thread, or tend to get yelled at when you make a thread but feel like your work needs to be posted anyways.

What should I post?
If you post any photos here, expect to learn from your mistakes. We are here to help you improve and give you a little praise to help you along the way, don’t be expected to be treated as a photography god though. As long as the photos are something you are proud of, and have some sort of artistic qualities to them, feel free to post them. Just don’t post a huge batch of drunken point and shoot photos from your nightclub antics.
Example of a good post:
I did a photoshoot with a new model today, experimenting using my wireless flash.
1-5 artistic photos including Flickr links at 640x420 or 1024x680
Could I get any criticism for these photos, should I do some changes to x in photoshop?
This poster would reply to criticism and improve themselves upon it.
Example of a bad post:
Hi guys my photos are better than yours, check out my amazing HDR!!!
5+ filter rape, overdone HDR, drunken point and shoot, etc photos at 1024x680+
This poster would ignore all criticism and continue to think they are amazing.
Why should I post here instead of making a thread?
Often if you make a thread it is a gallery of five or more photos of which people may praise or give light criticism, if you post your photos in here you will often receive more useful criticism.
Furthermore if you have less than five great photos to show off, you should probably just post them in here instead. If you don’t think your photos are good, then people in here will be happy to help you improve (don’t cry in the corner, just post your photos!).
:siren:Don’t post photos unless you are going to give criticism to others!:siren:
If you see any photos you like of dislike, please give criticism. Criticism is far more value-able to a photographer than praise, so criticise even the tiniest of flaws in a photo!
Don’t post your own photos without giving criticism to others, as that is rather rude. Also, if you are going to post photos listen to criticism given to you!

Sometimes I add in an extra step and take a
shot holding something over where the subject is
inteneded to be, to create a shadow. I didn't really need
to in that shot because there wasn't really a shadow there
anyway (580exii camera right). I do have an example of when
I did do that, though.

Once again, I've gone to sleep, woken up just as a new thread was being created.
Have a photo. It's from my first photobucket, which has resized and raped the quality, but I still think it's a nice moment. It's the frontman from Razorlight - I don't think I've posted it before...

I feel I should probably say a little about the photos context. It was at a climate change march in London and there was a mini-festival afterwards. During the march a random guy came up to me and gave me a fluorescent jacket with "Press" written on the back. With my camera + big lens and hood, one of the security guards just assumed I was official and ushered me in behind stage.
Managed to stand at the front and get that shot.
Was cool.
From a beach near home:

It is the content that makes a good image. I love it
I think you may have overdone the blacks in those.
I re-edited a few of the shots to create a more vibrant look.

I don't know how split toning works at all, but I just played around with some sliders and thought this looked alright, CC welcomed
I feel so dirty for cranking my ISO up so high.

I mean it looks like it was taken on some point and shoot, fuck.

I've found when going high ISO you really want to promote the grain, not diminish it. Sharp grain evenly distributed can look beautiful. you do however, want to kill colour splotches, they ALWAYS look total shit.
(black and white) example:

That's film grain though, high ISO on film looks nice, but horrible on digital.

High ISO on film is bigger grains so it is even and looks nice. Digital just increases the sensitivity so it is a lot of small random blotches of noise.
That's film grain though, high ISO on film looks nice, but horrible on digital.
it also translates to digital, you just have to treat it right, putting together an example now from my school ball (haven't bothered to edit them yet)

Love it. The sunset in the background is almost painterly, the red of the crane is bold and stands out, the DoF in the foreground of the building is good in helping you not notice is cutting off the picture.
