• Plugged in HDMI, now I can only use VGA

Today I tried to watch something on amazon instant video, but due to HDCP I couldn't watch HD so I went and removed both my DVI cables (one is a vga to dvi adapter) and plugged in the HDMI, but it didn't seem to work (figured out later that I forgot to change the source on the monitor) so I went to plug my DVI cables back in but only one screen turned on the VGA one which is in the first port so screwed around with it for a bit and couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I restarted my computer to then be greeted with 800x600 on my VGA monitor and the other still wouldn't turn work just a "DVI No Signal", went to screen resolution which would not detect the other monitor and was now calling this monitor "Generic Non-PnP Monitor" normally it's called HP w1907. Tried my DVI monitor on another computer and it worked fine so it must be something up with my computer. Re-installed Nvidia drivers twice which did nothing, thought maybe it was the graphics card so I tried a 560 which resulted in the same problem. I've also tried using a 2 system restore points one from today and one from last Tuesday didn't help. I can't use my DVI monitor on the first port since it's a DVI-I and I only have DVI-D cable I'm feeling a format would be the best option but I'd like to know what actually is causing this for future reference. Tried reinstalling GPU drivers?
You can plug a DVI-D cable into a DVI-I port, just not the other way around. Try that.
Pepper;44671462']Tried reinstalling GPU drivers?
Already did that twice
You can plug a DVI-D cable into a DVI-I port, just not the other way around. Run DXDIAG in your computer. You can see under display if your drivers are correctly installed. Have you tried a older version of a driver already?
I also had this problem a while ago. I wasn't able to connect my pc to my screen with a hdmi cable. I fixed it by installing teamviewer on the pc (with the vga cable), and I then swapped it for the hdmi cable. Ofcourse i wasn't able to see anything, but i could control my pc with teamviewer. After that i clicked on the 'detect' or 'identify' button in the screen resolution control panel. and voila, I was able to see my screen via hdmi. Maybe it works for you too.

I guess I should have tried old drivers ages ago I'll go try that now Edit: Didn't work
I also had this problem a while ago.
