Could your children be drinking poison? A new Consumer Reports study says it’s highly possible. It tested apple and grape juice and found high levels of arsenic in a number of samples. Zoe Hamilton limits how much juice she gives her daughters because she's concerned about the 'empty calories.' But there are other serious reasons for concern. Consumer Reports tested 28 apple juices and three grape juices purchased in the New York metropolitan area. Of the 88 samples analyzed, ten percent had arsenic levels that exceeded federal standards for bottled and municipal water. “The majority of the arsenic detected was the inorganic form; a known carcinogen linked to skin, bladder, and lung cancer,” says Urvashi Rangan, Ph.D from Consumer Reports. And with the 12 juices Consumer Reports tested, at least one sample contained lead levels that exceeded standards for bottled water. “Our test was limited, so we can't draw any conclusions about any particular type or brand of juice. But the higher levels of arsenic and lead we found are troubling because many children drink a lot of juice, and their small body size makes them particularly vulnerable,” says Rangan. One likely source of the contamination is pesticides containing arsenic that were used in agriculture. Even though most are now banned, they can remain in the soil. The advocacy arm of Consumer Reports is urging the Food and Drug Administration to set standards for juice. “We think the lead limits should be five parts per billion, the current standards for bottled water, or even lower. And for arsenic; three parts per billion. That`s attainable. Forty-one percent of the samples we tested met both those levels,” says Rangan. The Juice Products Association told Consumer Reports: “We are committed to providing nutritious and safe fruit juices ... and will comply with limits established by the Food and Drug Administration.” For now, Consumer Reports says the best advice for parents is to do what Zoe does and limit how much juice your children drink. The Food and Drug Administration told Consumer Reports it`s reviewing its own data to see if guidelines for juice should be set. It turns out the FDA has found levels of arsenic in apple juice that are even higher than what Consumer Reports’ tests discovered.
http://www.wtkr.com/news/wtkr-study-finds-high-levels-of-arsenic-in-popular-juices-20111130,0,3787035.story
woah I used to drink shitloads of apple Juicy Juice, I saw it in the video there good thing I've recently switched to fruit punch flavor
This is why you should always have your water/soil tested before growing edible foods. [editline]00[/editline] I wouldn't be surprised if this was from overuse of groundwater for irrigation. [editline]0[/editline] Something tells me the apples for the juice was either imported from Asia or South America.
Drinking apple juice as I read this
Keep in mind that the arsenic was found in high levels, not that a large proportion of juice brands contained high amounts of arsenic. The wording is intentionally shady to make this a reactionary article thats gets lots of press. 10% is a rather low number, overall.
I love me some grape flavored poison juice.
Doesn't seem that shocking. There's so many of these companies out there that it becomes difficult for the FDA to monitor what they're putting in their products, and also checking to make sure they're complying with the law in other ways. It's especially bad with medications you see advertised on TV. And then there's the issue that every single time something new comes out, they have to scramble around and run dozens of tests on it, which gets quite expensive and takes a great deal of time. Frankly, I don't really care anymore. I'll worry about it when I'm dead.
Haaaah! Joke's on you! i drink hepatitis blood! Mm Mm MMM!

Does this explain the third eye I've been developing?
Does this explain the third eye I've been developing?
No, Arsenic is poisonous, Not radioactive. [editline]1st December 2011[/editline] Get your facts right before you make a AHOO-Joke!-AHAA!
So this is why I'm resistant to it.
Fuck juice. Milk for life. Which is probably full of growth hormone and god knows what else, but it's not arsenic. THAT'S BAD.
My aunt ended up with high levels of arsenic earlier this year...
Good, we are slowly building an arsenic resistance in our children. Now one day when some shady would-be assassin attempts to poison your little princess(it happens to all of us at least once), she will be completely resistant. Thank you fruit juice companies, you are always 3 steps ahead. [editline]1st December 2011[/editline] Now all we need is Ricin Juice and we will be set.
They found high levels of weird shit in taco bell. Guess who still eats taco bell.

I'm really not surprised, certain fruits pips, such as apple seeds (along with mango , peach and almond) all contain cyanides.
Could your children be drinking poison?
That's one sensational opening line...
After reading the article I got thirsty for juice
Well fuck
No wonder. Water and milk are the way to go people.
Apple-cider ftw. And milk.
I'm really not surprised, certain fruits pips, such as apple seeds (along with mango , peach and almond) all contain cyanides.
Yeah I was going to say that When you mash up fruits that contain these substances naturally you're consuming a lot more of them than you would if you had just ate the fruit. As for exceeding standards set for water, it kind of makes sense because there's not much reason for tap water to have arsenic in it, but with fruit there is
Wow shit I drink juice every morning I'm goin to DIE
