Hey, JackHowers/Harmonizer here. It's time for another one of these albums! The last one was a great success, and I'm hoping we can make something just as good with twice as many songs or more.
Now, here's some bullshit about the songs:
First off, the quality has to be .wav
This is both to ensure that the music we listen to are of the finest quality (and to appease those darned audiophiles :argh:) and to make sure it can be uploaded to bandcamp.
.wav takes up a lot of space, but it's losless which means no quality will be lost when being sent around.
Secondly, the volume has to be -3 db
A new step, but one that I think can enhance the quality a lot. If every song is on the same soundlevel, then it will sound like it's the quality product it really is and means people won't have to bother with raising/lowering the volume while enjoying the CD.
I will make sure that the volume of each song is around the same level before releasing, but please keep it at -3db so that there is some standard to the volume at least.
HOW TO MAKE YOUR SONG -3 DB
How to make a song -3db loud in Audacity
1. Load your song into Audacity. Select the whole audio file by pressing Ctrl and A. The whole song should be highlighted like below.

2. On the top bar go to effect and select normalize. Set it to these settings. This will make the highest sample in your song -3db. If there is any clipping or any ear blowing contrast in your song, you'll want to get rid of it. Dynamics in your music is good to have, but you don't want the user having to manually control the volume.

3. Click ok and your finished song will now be at -3db. Inspect it to make sure it looks good. If there are any unusual spikes, your song was clipping at some point and you'll want to fix that.

Q&A

Q: Will this degrade the the audio quality?
A: The answer is mostly no but partially yes. There won't be any big difference with 16bit wav files.
Q: Could I do this during the mastering?
A: You should actually do this when you master if you know how. It'd really be a lot a better.
Q: So all of the tracks will have the same loudness?
A: No, they'll just have the same peak loudness, meaning that the loudest parts of every song will be the same.
Q: This isn't that great of a solution.
A: It is really the best way to go about it for a project like this. I don't believe anyone is going to volunteer to master all the tracks, so this is a simple solution.
Don't think your song is good enough? Ask yourself, is it good enough?
There is no discrimination towards any genre whatsoever, my goal with these CDs is to help people create music (and in this particular case, promote their music even further to the great people of facepunch). It's only you who decide whether the music you've done or want to send is good enough.
Once again, only one entry per person.
This one is self explanatory. We're also going to let people post their best track (don't ask us what track is the best, it is YOU who decide which one you think is the best). You have to make it a .wav though. So find the original recording and remaster it, because there's no use in converting an 192 kbps track to .wav, because there will be a loss of quality.
NO covers or remixes!
I don't think there's a lot to say, no covers or remixes, we want original music from you.
All profit will go to charity.
This is still a free album that costs nothing, HOWEVER as shown in the last threads people still want to pay for the product and who are we to say no to people paying for free music?
Have a page where all your music is? Include it when you send me the submission so that I can add it to track information.
All exposure is good exposure, right now the amount of plays on all of the tracks is almost up to 20,000.
I think that is all, any questions can be asked in the thread and I'll try to answer as soon as possible if you have any questions.
No limit on the songs.
24 or so songs would work as a good reference point, but based on the last album, we could do just as well with half or even twice as many (although that's really improbable).
Well then, let's do this!

Sign me up. :smug:
Also should I do some guitar improv or make an electronic song?
Cool.
I think I may want to work on a song for this.
Guess who is joining again

me?? :downs:
I'm in. I'm already working on a new song, and I think it will be good enough for this album.
Sign me up
Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I wish to participate in this again, you did an amazing job last time around Harmonizer. =)
Count me in!
I'd love to participate! Sign me up!

banned already?
He'll be back in a moment.
I am Harmonizer.
I think I may attempt a song that attempts to be funny. People seemed to like Oven mitts a good bit.
The next album as in this album? I wouldn't mind and I've previous experience with the last Facepunch rap battle thread. Although, I'm confused though because in the quote it says that he's giving the ownership to you.
I just talked to Own about it on Steam, PM'ed Dai to see about getting these loose threads closed. When that happens I'll get a new thread up.
Also, since I'm still getting up to speed, if somebody could drop me a list of users that should be PM'ed to keep them updated thread-wise (the "Participants:" list seems to vary across these threads) that'd be lovely.
What's up with the mods being assholes to Mr.Own/Harmonizer/Jack Howers (My old account that I forgot I had, mind you)? So he came back, what's wrong with that? He's been doing perfectly fine, helping with collabs and shit, yet you guys keep banning him for no real reason other than to do it.

If I recall correctly, if someone gets 2 of his accounts perma-banned, the mods automatically ban all his new accounts too.
He's probably ban on sight.
Anyway, I might be trying to participate in this, if I can grub together some jazz or something.
I'm up for it!
Mr.Own was Perma'd as a Gold Revoke, so it wasn't really a perma. Then Jack Howers was banned for some reason, and so wasn't Harmonizer.
jesus christ what a mess
Awesome!
We're waiting. :)
I'm not up for making a new thread if that's what you meant :v:
