But don’t ask Google about it. The search giant is known for its colorful, interactive logos for everything from the 78th birthday of the inventor of the Moog synthesizer to Earth Day to the anniversary of Pac-Man. But for Flag Day, the company was presenting visitors with nothing but its usual site, declining to play up the red and blue in its logo. Even Google users noticed the omission. "You create elaborate doodle's for random holidays like when the Ferris wheel was created, but Memorial Day and Flag Day are totally disregarded," wrote one user on Google's message boards. "Memorial Day at least got a little baby Flag with a ribbon at the bottom of the page. But today, there's nothing?" Meanwhile, Microsoft fully embraced the national holiday, with a colorful background that shows Old Glory in all its glory: a colorful display of fluttering flags against the backdrop of Rockefeller Center. Bing’s homepage carries boxes that allow the curious websurfer to find out more about whatever holiday, event, thing or whatever the page is highlighting. In this case, facts about both the Rockefeller Center setting and the Flag Day event that prompted the picture. “After the United States gained independence, it took nearly one whole year to decide on the first design for our country’s flag,” Bing notes. “It’s changed over the years, but don’t you think we ended up with a grand one?” The last few words are linked to a search page with information on Flag Day. On Tuesday, Google did highlight national pride, however: a doodle presented on some local versions of the site honored Russia Day. June 12 was also highlighted regionally as Independence Day in the Philippines. Flag Day, not so much.
Someone should tell Fox News that google isn't exclusively used in the US.
I can't believe this is a real article. :v: It's like something you'd read on a parody news site.
I can't believe this is a real article. :v:
It's one of the top stories on fox as well
who HONESTLY cares. Oh wait, the model american's at Fox.
Didn't know that we had a holiday celebrating our flag. At least now when I not-celebrate it I can do so while exercising my free will.
I'm gonna go ahead and say it's because it's a day celebrating a fucking flag
There's no mention of the Falklands liberation day either, but they aren't throwing a stink are they?
Who the fuck cares if anyone at all worships a piece of painted cloth anyway? I love America's over the top patriotism... :v: hahaha
I dont see it as a big deal. Google does so much for the international community that because they didnt participate in a US only 'holiday' doesnt mean a thing to most people. Hell, I didnt even know it was flagday.
dear fox news fuck you DON'T GET MORE AMERICAN THAN THAT
Oh man Google isn't celebrating Flag Day? Now I'm going to stop using Google because Google hates America and I'm an American and I love America.
That's because nationalism is "the measles of mankind"
Who really cares?
Haha. Who cares, Fox? I haven't flown a flag on flag day or memorial day in years...partly because I live out in the sticks and nobody'll see it, but partly because it's a pain in the ass to get the damned thing out and put it away.
I don't think G-Wash would give a single fuck.
Should celebrate flag day. Make the home page a compilation of all flags :v:
Flag day is kinda stupid. Memorial day and Independence Day are much better. I don't care that they didn't do this. It's like changing it for arbor day...
You guys have a flag day? Seriously?
The flag is very sunken into American culture. So, yes.
uhmerica
You know who else loved their flag?
You know who else loved their flag?
the nzis yeh :downs:
Reminds me of how I had a debate among friends about how Fox News is just a terrible site. None of them would be persuaded. They are also die-hard Republicans, and once got into a physical fight over whether Santorum or Romney was better.
America :911:
uhmerica
No you incontinent savage, it's 'murrikuh!
Well, I doubt any other countries have their flags on Google on their flag days or such, why should USA?
I didn't even know we had a flag day until the calendar on my windows phone told me.
Well, I doubt any other countries have their flags on Google on their flag days or such, why should USA?
Well, as minor as it is, it's still a holiday. And Google is known to celebrate the most minuscule holidays there are.
