Motherfucking ISP keeps blocking everything on my Internet
45 replies, posted
Seriously, I don't know what my ISP keeps blocking websites I visit regularly.
I have tried Google's DNS, didin't work for me.
I've tried Proxies, still didin't work.
I'm not fixing to spend money on a VPN when I pay $60 a month for 100 k/b Download speed for internet.
Seriously, how can I get past this?
Who's your ISP?
Texas Cell Net. because I live in a small "podunk" country town, this is the only High speed internet provider that I can get.
Because of that, they overprice their shit.

http://texascellnet.com/

Texas Cellnet uses a state-of-the-art 2.4GHz wireless radio on a grid antenna where a cable runs into the house and can be plugged into a desktop computer, laptop, or local network.
Pretty much explains that. Wireless solutions are very rarely cheap. I would hardly say "state of the art", but eh, what can you do? Better than satellite.
Did you try going through their customer service? They would be the first ones to ask. If anything, they would have a better idea of what's going on than we do.
Is 100 KB/S download considered as a high speed connection in the states?
Well it isn't if you're used to 100 MB/S
Welp, my internet connection is a thousand times faster than his and I pay less for it. The ISP's in the States are really greedy.
Huge assumption based off of one company. I pay 40/m and I get 50mbit down and 5mbit up.
America is extremely capitalistic, which means you'll find the good service where a lot of people live and shitty service where only some people live, instead of trying to be more consistent.
Delivering service to some customers costs more than to other customers.
It is possible, the OP's ISP is a WISP.
That means that they're providing a rare service out in that area.
To provide faster access, you'd have to either lay down fiber optic cable around the area, which isn't cheap.
Or you'd have to build 4G base stations all over the place, which have to be connected to the Internet via fiber. Which is even more expensive.
Is 100 KB/S download considered as a high speed connection in the states?
Considering when a good chunk of the US is rural based where the alternative is dial-up, yes, that's blazing fast. Except for the whole website ordeal, the OP is quite lucky to get internet at those speeds in his area.

$5/m with no speed cap.
Have fun.

Very true. I used to be in one of those areas, but then Charter and Time Warner both came out to my area so now we have a ISP battle with good deals.
thats why I envy europe with them 100mbps and all !
I pay 70$ for a 30mbps with a god damn 150g Cap
Hate my Isp :(
sadly its the only "Good" one around here
Well, you're probably in an area where the Internet price is cheap; Americans often whine about their relatively slow Internet connection so I assumed that most of you had that problem.
rating dumb will not do this post right
people who whine about their internet connection are people who live in states with the lowest populations, i.e. north/south dakota, maine, any place that is off the beaten path. people in areas with cities and large towns, such as the ones i live around, get broadband and often fiber optic service at a relatively cheap cost. well done on knowing what you were talking about.
Connection speeds in the US are, on average, quite poor compared to European rates due to the increased costs of building out infrastructure in such a wide area. In Europe aging communication lines can be upgraded (or new lines installed) for a fraction of the cost it would take to serve an equal number of customers in the US.
The US ranks 179th in terms of population density according to Wikipedia with an average density of 32 people per square kilometer. Compare that to the European Unions estimated density of 112 people per square kilometer.

Overall Canada/US has better internet than most of Europe. A few countries such as Norway, Sweden (the "Norsk" countries) have good internet, but I'm currently on 500kb/s for £150 /m, 18gb limit.

Naah, it's pretty much just the UK and southern countries that's getting shafted with shitty internet.

Don't associate Canada and good internet. We may get good speeds and they are in fact the speeds we pay for, but we have such little bandwidth for what we pay that there's no point in having speeds that fast. I would rather have 1/4 the speed I have now in exchange for double the bandwidth.
England is slowly getting fibrewire outside of the cities. The problem is BT own it all and they didn't have much reason to upgrade it until recently.
Still kinda' slow at the moment though.
This thread irritates my 300kb/s cap. I hate at&t...
Silly americans.
The "s" is to imply ownership. As in "the density of the Union". I missed an apostrophe.
They probably have some kind of Internet Cartel though, it's impossible to keep the speeds that low without anyone selling cheap and fast Internet connections to get more customers.
In small towns like that the government usually controls which ISP's are allowed to operate in the area and they almost always get some sort of compensation for it. Bigger cities like Miami have multiple ISP's operating in the same area so you get some healthy pricing competitions. Unless you live in an Apartment that's contracted with a certain ISP. I myself fought Comcast to give me a healthy 30mb/s down and 5mb/s up for $29.99/month.
But the US is still behind on network packages. It sickens me to see ISP's in netherlands getting 100mb/down and 100mb/up

You also implied that every european country belongs to EU.

He tried his best. At least Norway isn't highlighted.

And what in the lord of christ is a "Norsk" country?
Norsk means Norwegian in Norwegian.
I have Hughsnet satallite ISP they say "1mb down .5 mb up but more like .05 mb down and 5mb up....with 250 mb limit per day.

At what point did I imply that? You're trying really hard to discredit me.

Pffft, forget torrenting anything useful... or gaming for that matter. :/

I admit that terminology was wrong. I mean Sweden, Denmark, Norway area.

So, Scandinavia.
My cap is supposedly 8mbs, but I rarely get speeds above 700kb/s; not that I'm complaining, months ago it was only half that.
