This week, Ouya has tried yet again to get gamers' attention by way of a crazy, limited-time bargain: the Ouya All-Access Pass. The pass, which costs $60 and lasts for a full year, is meant to unlock seemingly unlimited access to the Ouya online store's major paid offerings: namely, "one-time purchases under $30 such as full-game unlocks and level-pack add-ons." However, the fine print explains that downloadable content designed to "enhance gameplay" with options such as "extra lives and power-ups" is not included in the All-Access Pass, which may create a blurry line between what content is and isn't included. Ouya's Chess 2, for example, doesn't include a full "unlock" purchase but rather coin packs used to enable online play at a cost per online session. The promotion comes on the heels of a March change in Ouya policy allowing developers to make paid games that don't include free demo versions or in-app purchases. That shift made particular sense for a wave of serious games coming to Ouya, including That Dragon, Cancer, and Thralled, whose sensitive content might be undermined by "pay more to keep going!" alerts mid-stream.
hahahaha no not gonna save you ouya
it wouldnt be a bad deal if all the games wernt shit
This just ain't right.
"Ouya's Chess 2, for example, doesn't include a full "unlock" purchase but rather coin packs used to enable online play at a cost per online session." That sounds straight retarded. That'd be like charging per online session for csgo or battlefield.
I'd have more fun sitting on the can taking a liquid shit that playing and paying for Ouya crap.
Oh good so I can pay AAA price for their one almost good game
Can they hurry up and declare this thing a flop already?
You don't need to declare the obvious.
A bunch of devs are super-pissed about this, because Ouya didn't actually ask the developers before putting their games into this thing.
A bunch of devs are super-pissed about this, because Ouya didn't actually ask the developers before putting their games into this thing.
Even in it's death throes, Ouya manages to fuck up horribly.
it wouldnt be a bad deal if all the games wernt shit
Amazing Frog is pretty good.
This thing is such a train wreck. What the hell made people throw so much money at this in the first place, it doesn't even sound that fantastical on paper let alone implemented into the real world. Its an android box that you use to play phone games on. WOW

They promised a console to compete just below current gen (at that time), with a 'hackable' os and other features of basicially being an open platform where you could treat the console however you want upon delivery we found out it was just a droid phone inside a square box
I cant believe people shelled out so much money for such a dumb concept, especially in the era of smartphones (which the Ouya was, just glorified and with a controller). Ah, the hayday of kickstarter, where any idea that sounded remotely good got millions upon millions of dollars for no reason. I would say I'm glad that the trend is over but we have stuff like Solar Roadways that's essentially the infrastructure version of the Ouya.

In fact, I use a hacked APK to play my Steam games on my television out in the living room. It's pretty great.
Yeah but couldnt you just... You know, use a computer?
Ouya is smaller and cheaper? I don't use a flamethrower to cut my grass.
"Sixty bucks?!"
I'd have more fun sitting on the can taking a liquid shit that playing and paying for Ouya crap.
I had liquid shit this morning and it wasn't fun. My asshole was on fire.
Ouya is smaller and cheaper? I don't use a flamethrower to cut my grass.
I can see where you're coming from but literally everyone who did/would've bought an Ouya already had a computer, so whats the point of shelling out the extra money? Even an awful toaster could do what he wanted in doing emulation and watching Netflix. I'm pretty sure this argument gets brought up a lot for gaming consoles in general as well but the fact of the matter is that PCs (not just desktops) are the most flexible piece of tech in terms of purpose by far.
Or you can spend $60 during any of the ongoing summer sales for digital distributors and get like 10 games. 10 good games.
$60 10 games you shitting me? I walked away from the summer sale with like 7 games and DLC for $20.
the Ouya's still a semi-okay option if you're lazy and want to play emulators on your couch.
If you want a cheap game console, just get a PS2. There are nearly 4000 games for it, many of it's greatest games at really low prices. I got my newest PS2 for $35, and 2 controllers for $10 each.

60 a year is not a bad deal, I wonder if there are actually enough games on it to make it worth it.
Why haven't they announced a second gen Ouya already? There's nothing pleasant looking that can be done at 1080p with a generations old Tegra 3
They kind of did, but it's more of another SKU with a better controller. I think they actually might have improved the hardware.

Why even bother? It was already dead on arrival, now there's Nvidia Shield, Vita TV, a bunch of other copy cats that are already better since they use the google play store, and now Android TV which starting hardware uses the Tegra K1 and is already demoing UE4 on it. Honestly, I'd love to have a gamefly like subscription for PC games. This sounds like a good idea and probably would have worked if they started it from the beginning as an option before bad press which caused less devs to want to bother.
