A Russian man was brutally beaten to death for being gay after coming out to his friends, investigators confirmed, stating that he was a victim of a homophobic gang. The victim sustained serious injuries in the assault, including to his genitals.
“The motive for the crime was the [victim's] non-traditional sexual orientation,” senior regional investigator Andrey Gapchenko said, adding that two suspected attackers have been arrested and another man is a witness in the case.
According to one of the suspects, the victim came out as a homosexual to his friends while they were drinking beer on a bench outside. His friends reportedly decided to taunt him by making him walk home naked, and began ripping off his clothes. “When they were done, the men decided not to stop there,” Gapchenko said.
The victim’s skull was smashed with a 20-kilogram (44-pound) rock, and the body was apparently raped with beer bottles, local media reported. The suspects also tried and failed to burn his body by putting pieces of carton boxes underneath it and lighting them on fire.
Wow, what amazing friends.
What can you say about news like this? The human race never ceases to surprise with such atrocities.
Of course, the comments are brutal too.

Even people defending the victim are idiots
To the murderers, you are no less gey than than innocent man you killed.
That's pretty fucked up, I can't imagine what was going through the attackers heads when they turned on him.
Just imagine how it happened
"Guys, I'm gay. I know that you'll understand."
"No we don't. Let's beat this gay fuck up after we strip him naked"
Apparently his friends were never his friends.
"friends"
These "friends" you speak of are beyond assholes
if they stuck beer bottles up his ass thats pretty homoerotic
Jesus Christ, to think humanity was really making gains on being accepting and understanding. And then, horrific acts like this happen.
Yeah, wtf? Kill your homie for being gay, then shove beer bottles up his ass. That's mad twisted, man.
i will never understand why people kill other people for being different
Usually it's either jealousy or fear

yeah, homophobia is for faggots!
We fear what we do not understand. We loath what we are when it's expressed in others.
As a question, what's the Russian government's stance on homosexuality? I can't quite understand how there are still people that exist that condemn homosexuals, at the very least those that don't belong to a major religion.

cool people dont
what goes through your head when you learn your friend is gay as a result you decide to kill him? "yeah this is a great idea I love hate crimes!!"
Apparently some people think homosexuals are worse than sadistic murderers

But there's nothing to fear from homosexuality. What, are they scared that they'll be surrounded by gay people, or that one day gay people will try to come onto them? I walk around on a regular basis and have passed by gay couples before without even giving them a second glance, whereas people like these guys would flip their shit upon even seeing them.
There's literally nothing to fear out of homosexuality, people are just being dicks because they don't like the sight or thought of a man with another man, and upon my word I cannot understand why.
I knew a russian guy once.
He called me a faggot and said homosexuality was just wrong and unnatural in front of all his friends, and when we were alone he would grab me and beg me to suck his dick.

Probably similar to general Russian opinion i.e. not favourable. Although their constitution guarantees the rights of LGBT people iirc, they still pass laws that are apparently meant to stop "homosexual propaganda" with a serious face. (although, it's worth mentioning those laws are local ones for just a few cities i.e. not a federal law)
Then there's the usual discrimination and beatings, though that's becoming less common amongst the younger generation of Russians (especially if they've recieved a decent education)
Russia is one of the last places on earth I'd ever come out at. The middle east and eastern europe are probably one of the last places on earth that would accept homosexuality, even if the rest of the world does.
This guy probably knew his friends wouldn't be cool with it but alcohol and the desire to not live your life in the closet does bad things to your judgement. Well, not that it's bad to want to come out of the closet, but doing it to certain people is a bad idea. Maybe this guy just didn't know his "friends" as good as he thought he did.
What a surprise.
Those are my only words because I know what people are like in Eastern Europe. If I was gay, I wouldn't probably reveal it to anyone but my parents because being laughed at by everyone is not a nice thing.
if you live in russia you should have known that this happens alot
still fucked up

I always found it weird. My country is SO inconsistent in SO many diffirent things. Take my home city, we have several gay clubs, three general night clubs that make "gay parties" weekly (and one of them is located in a "troubled/depressive" district, haven't been attacked once). In general no one gives a flying fuck about that other guy's or girl's sexuality.
But in the city that is just like, 250 km away from us - there's a law banning "homosexual propaganda".

It's pretty large so I'd imagine there's a bit of regional difference in that regard, but still that's weird for a city so close to be so far on the other end of the spectrum.
This is actually a fairly common pledge to make among friends 'If I ever turn gay, you know what to do'.
I don't understand how "friends" could ever do this to each other.
