Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker says he’s opposed to allowing Syrian refugees into the state in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris.
The Republican said Monday the safety of Massachusetts residents is his first priority. He said he would have to know a lot more about the federal government’s vetting process before allowing Syrian refugees into the state — although he may not have the final say.
‘‘I think at this point in time we would have to be very cautious about accepting folks without knowing a lot more about what the federal government’s plan looks like,’’ Baker said. ‘‘I would certainly say no until I know a lot more than I know now.’’

Several governors are temporarily halting efforts to allow Syrian refugees into their states, responding to heightened concerns that terrorists might use the refugees as cover to sneak across borders.
People have reason to be concerned considering that seems to be how they got into France.
Is this not exactly what ISIS wants?
PA seems to be perfectly ok with it tho.

I thought they were radicalised French citizens?
Is this not exactly what ISIS wants?
What they want is irrelevant. We should do whats most sensible.
I thought they were radicalised French citizens?
It is currently speculated that at least one of them recently claimed refugee in France and was originally processed in Greece as coming from Syria. Some of the others were from Belgium, though I'm not sure if it's yet known if they were recent immigrants or not.
Given the recent ISIS threats against Washington DC, this seems like a smart move.
What they want is irrelevant. We should do whats most sensible.
Irrelevant? That is awful to say about these people who have lost their homes and are escaping from the terror day in day out. They're more than welcome here in my opinion, you can keep yours. What we need is more checks and continuous intelligence of those entering. They're just as afraid of ISIS as we are.
We have a history of electing the worst fucking governors... Romney, Patrick, Baker all suck.
What they want is irrelevant. We should do whats most sensible.
... which is not giving Daesh what they want. They are fleeing from war and terror themselves for fuck sakes.
[editline]16th November 2015[/editline]
I think if Daesh wants to get into the country, they will get in regardless even if you stop the borders for Syrian refugees
As long as they are checked well and let in in sensible numbers whats wrong? The problem in Europe is that refugees were entering like a waterfall, in extreme numbers and with much in the way of checks
Is this not exactly what ISIS wants?
You take in refugees, it's what they want you to do.
You don't take in refugees, it's also what they want you to do.
ISIS always wins.

They as in ISIS. What ISIS wants the west to do doesn't matter.

He said "What ISIS wants is irrelevant", not "What the refugees want is irrelevant"...
And also the refugees, which consists of only 10,000 people the next 12 months (meanwhile many other countries are taking in over 42,000, aren't they at risk?) are spread across the fucking country, if they are not allowed in Massachusetts will they not get in somewhere else? This shit is stupid as fuck.

You shouldn't base your decisions on "This will please/displease the terrorists".

Isn't this exactly what ISIS wants? Don't they want to breed hatred between syrians and the rest of the world, and then ultimately recruit them in their vain war against the rest of the world?
Turning away those in need doesn't exactly get them on your good side.
Is this not exactly what ISIS wants?
To be fair, this was the place where a Terrorist attack did happen like two years ago, I think it's understandable.

You take in refugees, there's a chance that there'll be a cell hidden amongst them.
You don't take in refugees, and isis will try to use that to their advantage via propaganda.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

NO
Only black or white, those are the only solutions! No such thing as taking a moderated reaction, you can only knee-jerk.
People have reason to be concerned considering that seems to be how they got into France.
That's how one of them possibly got into France. The main reason they can attack on EU soil is because of sleeper cells in poorly maintained neighbourhoods around Paris and Brussels.
Who cares about propaganda when it comes to protecting citizens lives. I'm all for refusing them until we get proper documentation on them to ensure our safety. Ita not a fool proof plan but at least it's a step

I wouldn't call this as much of a knee-jerk from Massachusetts, as it is a calculated bargaining chip. I have zero trust in the competency of government right now, this is probably how Massachusetts feels. If Massachusetts starts off with a hardball, they can soften it as strict regulations are proposed. But it's much more difficult to double down on what your position is if you start off soft.
I can't guarantee this is what the governor is doing, but I can see how you'd be at an advantage when you begin to engage in a compromise if you start off like this.

Same here, after Paris, I'm not comfortable at all with letting Refugee's into the United States yet.
Also the people in this threat that think this is knee jerk or racist. This is the same state that had one of it's most culturally important cities bombed during a marathon, I can perfectly understand if they're not to friendly about the idea of refugees at the moment, including what just happened in France.
What they want is irrelevant. We should do whats most sensible.
What's most sensible is not giving them the very thing they want. If what they want is to incite islamaphobia, to strike fear into people and make governments close their doors to muslims, that is the one thing you should not allow to happen.

Then. What. Do. You. Fucking. Do. Then?
It's already said.
A. We let the Refugees in, you risk a cell hidden among them, happily ready to attack important Revolutionary War icons.
B. We don't let the Refugees in, and ISIS makes propoganda saying we're a bunch of racist white people that don't want downtrodden folks to enter into our golden empire or something stupid like that.
Either way, they're going to get what they want. All WE can do, is tell ISIS to fuck off, and lock down our states to keep them safe for now against another attack like what just happened in Paris, France, AKA one of the most iconic western cities on the planet Earth.
So, unless you have a Option C. kindly shut up please as all you're doing is just sitting down and complaining.

So far they've identified 2 of the killers, one under each of these categories.
I thought they were radicalised French citizens?
One of them had a Syrian passport on them. There's a thread in SH on it already.
People have reason to be concerned considering that seems to be how they got into France.
way to draw conclusions, like we knew everything about 9/11 3 days later.
