Are we allowed a little more nuanced view like "they should definitely be punished for this and it doesn't fit with accepted Australian values but I can understand that adjusting to a culture so far removed from what you're used to doesn't come easily"?

Assimilation exists for a reason. If you move to a different country and plan to stay there for any extended period of time, you should adopt their social norms/standards and abide by their laws. It's that simple.

If you say forcing kids to marry is okay if they're Muslim, then you're implying Muslim children have less rights than other children.
