YES. this is my aesthetic
Can't wait to hear Wayne June talking about the vampiric horrors of the Crimson Court. I swear, that guy could talk about the horrors found at the back of a neglected fridge, and I'd still be hooked.
I have heard varying opinions of this game, a lot of people have been saying it's difficulty is plain unfair as opposed to challenging. How is the current state of the game?

people complaining about difficulty are in the wrong mindset, it's about 20% of the time the game gives you an unfair run that couldn't have been saved by proper rng management
Oh man, I was actually getting afraid this game was already done for. Glad to finally hear about it again.
I have heard varying opinions of this game, a lot of people have been saying it's difficulty is plain unfair as opposed to challenging. How is the current state of the game?
if you ever find out about torchless runs(for shitload of cash and giving xp to low level characters) and you start shifting between those and normal runs, you can buy more than you need without worrying about money ever again, the game stops being that difficult. and I don't mean pre-nerf torchless runs from early access that you'd do exclusively until you win, these ones are played on easier difficulty with underleveled characters to stack on gold and to level them up. it actually makes the game more fun because you play somewhat differently when it's pitch black, it's like a different mode It still has unfair moments, but they aren't even that severe because you can easily level up characters when you're stacked with resources every time and you can easily cure quirks and diseases before they get expensive. The only issue is that it trivializes deaths of your top tier characters compared to the usual way of playing(it's still not irrelevant by any means, it's just a lot less impactful), but it's either that or dealing with unfair bullshit and ridiculous grinding. But that was just before they added the first class post launch so maybe they rebalanced things since then? either way what I'm trying to say is that the most common complaints about the game don't have to be necessarily true at all
While I can't tell you the current state of the game, but I can attest to the difficulty being unfair. It starts off pretty good, the first 6 or 7 hours of a 15 hour campaign I had were fun but really damn hard, but after that the game falls apart and does everything in its power to try and prevent you from using strategy of any sort. It eventually just turns into an elaborate game of gambling and it got too frustrating for me to continue. I think the analogy I used before was the game bends you over and rolls dice into your anus. Some people might find that pleasurable, others not, and it makes me want to get hammered cause I spent $20 to learn I don't enjoy that.
This kept me from playing too. Difficult challenges are interesting and fun but the developer seems to mistake "unfair" with "fun" and just wants the player to grind the shit out of their playthroughs after a while and additionally giving him absolute unlucky outcomes. Games like Dark Souls find their right balance between unfair and challenging as most mistakes happen because of the player's fault. But in this game I have a feeling that the game just wants to fuck me in the ass all the time just because it can.
I didn't find the game to be unfair at all, proper rng management and thinking about composition synergy and stuff like that pretty much eliminates all of the "unfairness" of the game.
