• Question: Onboard GPU

Hello Facepunch, I recently build a computer with a P8Z68-v motherboard, which allows me to use the onboard GPU from the i5 2500K processor. Since this is a gaming build, I also purchased a 570GTX GPU. Now I know there is an option to use the onboard GPU in 2D applications, Windows Desktop etc and then when you start up a game or rather a more graphical demanding application, the 570 would come in action. Because 80% of the time i don't play games when using the computer, I was wondering how to set this up. I don't know how this feature is called(so Google didn't help all that much there) so i was hoping Facepunch could provide me with the information on how to set this up, Either a link or the actual name of the feature would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
what's the point in doing that? :v: [editline]19th August 2011[/editline] if it's because of the noise of the fan or something, just use a program like MSI Afterburner to bump it down to the lowest while you're not doing anything
Figured it would save some power, or am i seeing it wrong?
Thats actually what a few different laptops do, don't think you can do it on a desktop though.
it's called Lucid Virtu [editline]19th August 2011[/editline]
what's the point in doing that? :v: [editline]19th August 2011[/editline] if it's because of the noise of the fan or something, just use a program like MSI Afterburner to bump it down to the lowest while you're not doing anything
lower power consumption
There's Hybrid SLI but I think it's notebook only. Either way, a dedicated GPU will downclock significantly when in 2D mode so it's probably not worth the hassle.
lower power consumption
oh I see, I have heard of Lucid Virtu before but I didn't really know what it was 'till now the more you know
Thanks alot guys, got some googling to do! Have to find out first if it actually makes a difference though. Edit: Well apparently it was too good to be true. Using Lucid Virtu actually decrease the prestations from the actual GPU, not by alot though. The wattage goes down as well, again not by alot. I might look better into it tomorrow, but it seems quite impractical to be honest, unfortunately.
