Whenever I try to launch pretty much any game on Steam, hl2.exe keeps crashing. I've tried everything, from updating my graphics card drivers to using various tips and tricks to get it working. Only problem is, it didn't work. My specs are: AMD Athlon 64 processor 3000+ 2GB RAM Nvidia GeForce GX 5500 Please assist me, I'm dying to play games again.
Get a new computer, bro.
Well, my computer is above the minimum requirements, so my specs shouldn't be the problem...
You still should get a new computer.
Several questions... Did it ever work in the first place? Have you tried a re-installation?
It did work like... 4 months ago, I sorta stopped playing on Steam for some time. And I have tried reinstalling the games and Steam. Won't work.
i used to play steam games on a 5500 i really suggest you buy a new computer or build onto the one you're using now and then reformat.
Hit up System Restore and see if any events happened which could have an effect on HL2 working properly. Incidentally did you try properly re-installing Steam or just deleting the games and re-downloading them? What anti-virus are you running? It might be that the AV is interfering with the game loading up.
There is still a bug in HL2.exe which valve has YET to address, causing HL2.exe to crash suddenly for no apparent reason.
1 - Open the steam games list. 2 - Right click on the Source game you want to play. 3 - Choose "Properties." 4 - Choose "Set launch options..." 5 - Type this: -dxlevel 80 6 - Try starting the game.
Upgrade to a 7 series mid or end and you could probably play hl2 easily. I still play on a 6150 and get 30 fps (until I spawn npc's and kill them, then I drop around 5-10) I had a 5500 and it broke on me D: All that money fore nice pixel shaders to play star wars 1 lego. Uhhh, back on subject, do what the above statement says, if that doesn't help then you may have a currupt game, you got a cd or was it from steams store?
