How do you prevent your clothes from getting ruined in the wash?

I've seriously had this happen more times then I can count.
1) Buy some sort of t-shirt/hoody/anything cotton
2) wash it
3) find out its all crumpled and dried out, and the words/pictures are all grainy and shit, and if it has a zipper, its bent in odd ways
4) stop wearing whatever it is
I've tried washing in cold water, turning shirts inside out so that they don't get worn out, and drying them on medium instead of high.. but it doesn't help much.
Ask your mom to do it. They know everything.
You know what I hate?
After you wash a sweater a lot, little fibers on the back start rolling up into balls, until the entire back of your sweater is covered in thousands of these millimeter thick spheres.

That's something I was getting at. shit is annoying.
Get a better washing machine.
You should wash your clothes in the same manner society did before washing machines were invented. Will fix all your problems.
My problem is not the quality of the shirt, I could honestly care less about that. The designs and writing stays legible for a long time, it's the fact that a lot of my clothes come out with what appear to be massive jizz stains on them that piss me off.

This means that your detergant inst being completely washed out, do this:
Check your water pressure in your house to make sure its high.
or....
Check the pipes leading into the washing machine, they may be clogged.
or....
Get a new washing machine.
or....
Wash on really... really.... really.... fucking hot!
Detergent can be left in the clothes if you pack too much stuff in there, too.
Get a girlfriend to do it. And when she starts, tell that bitch to get back into the kitchen where she belongs. then you can just RTFM!
You could just read the tag which tells you how to wash them. That always works. Christ our generation is dumb.
Don't wash them :smug:

Fuck that. I wash everything on a cold 40 minute cycle and it comes out fine. Sometimes washing fluffy towels with other stuff results in lint and such but I just wash them seperately if I need to.
Turn the shirt inside out. As in, the embedded picture or whatever on the inside. That'll protect it better.
It might how well it was made.
I really don't have problems because I hand wash/air dry whatever I buy that is designer [Eg: Express clothing, things that are not from GAP or Old Navy]
It really is not too much of a hassle once you get used to it.
I've had this happen to me.
I've also had residual bleach from a previous load ruin my entire wardrobe. I had to wear my grub clothes for a bit until I could get some new stuff.
Just recently, I ruined a pair of jeans because I stuck a couple pens in my pocket to bring to work and one of them exploded. That's unrelated but I thought I'd share.
Lick it clean.
Turn the shirt inside out.
Buy more quality shirts.
