The design of the new note was revealed in 2009 and features entrepreneur Matthew Boulton and engineer James Watt, who pioneered the use of steam engines in textile manufacturing. The Bank says the note will have a range of enhanced security features. It will be the first time that two portraits will appear together on the reverse of one its banknotes. The Bank has said they will later reveal a date when the old note will be withdrawn. The design has seldom changed since it was first introduced in 1725. A white £50 was in use for more than 200 years until 1943. There are 210 million £50 notes in circulation, valued at £10.5bn. That is 84% higher than 7 years ago. The £20 is the most common Bank of England note in circulation, with 1.55 billion notes in circulation worth £31bn. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15122770 ____ At 20 I have never actually used a £50 note, and have seen barely any. Whenever I take large amounts of money out I always have it in 20s so it surprised me how many were in circulation.
I've never even seen a £50 note, i didn't even know we had them.
I love £50 notes but its always usually the Chinese that use them as tender for the smallest of ammounts. Also this new design needs more on the corners in my opinion. Otherwise nice.
Money Money Money. Why do they always redesign money. Our notes only changed from paper to plastic. Also, this is paper note right?

Enhanced security features?
£50 notes aren't accepted in 90% of places because of how many are faked. [editline].[/editline] On a somewhat related note I nearly got rejected for using a 1986 commemorative £2 coin the other day.
I think it's time to turn to credits for money. I always liked that about KOTOR. We are starting to live in such a futuristic time where credits should be accepted instead of paper.

We have £50 notes now?
Is that Bilbo Baggins on the left?
I've only ever seen a £50 once, when I received one for my birthday a few years ago.
The pink makes it look so gay
Do the majority of UK users here live isolated lives? I've seen dozens of them over the years and the majority of them I saw in LIVERPOOL [editline]30th September 2011[/editline]
The pink makes it look so gay
its a shade of red you floppy penis
For reference, this is the current one, and it's quite a bit larger than the £20 note 156mm x 85mm

How do people who live in the UK don't know they have a £50 note in their currency?
How do people who live in the UK don't know they have a £50 note in their currency?
Because it's really not that widly used, nor accepted without a great deal of hastle (first they'll check the FUCK outta it to make sure its not fake) then they'll ask you if you have smaller change first
How do people who live in the UK don't know they have a £50 note in their currency?
Because £50 is a lot of money.
funny, people pay for things in 100 usd bills all the time
I barely use cash anyway, anything over £10 and I use chip and pin, since I get paid straight into my bank.
Yay. This means I don't have to pay my daily Tube admission pass with 200 quarter-pounders any more.
Because £50 is a lot of money.
The same that $100 is also a lot of money. I know the note isn't widely used but I assumed it was common knowledge for anyone who's lived in the UK for most of their lives.
Grab it while you can, lads!
£50 notes are generally used in Cash & Carry's.
What's it worth in American Dollars? $70ish?
What's it worth in American Dollars? $70ish?
$77.89
A fifty pound note... that's pretty heavy.
