So, just the other day this started. Occasionally, a green vertical line will appear on my laptop screen, and it'll go away if I tap it. Sometimes, it's green but changes blue. Is this a problem with my screen, and if not, what is it?
It's a problem with the screen. It tends to appear with age, but I don't think it will ever go away.
Hardware issue. Throw away your laptop.
techinal support thataway
Overheating of the GPU may cause this, right?
you need to upgrade the gigaflops relative to the terahertz of ram being used in your video section because your display optimizer is lagging
It sounds like a problem with the actual screen. Probably the way it connects. Since it is a laptop, opening and closing, I can see it causing strain the connectors.
Also, Dr. Fishtastic why even bother? I'm tired of people thinking that saying "jiggahertz need upgraded" is funny.
Sounds like screen is fucked...you could use an external monitor.
I try to use an external monitor whenever I can with my laptop. Too bad there isn't a HDMI port on my laptop, so I have to use VGA.

this is not necessary. he just needs to get a new screen, which is easy to do with a laptop.
if it goes away when you tap it then punch it as hard as possible
Squad is right however, it also could be a pixel going out on your screen. I would suggest using an external. you could replace the screen....but i wouldn't try unless you have plenty of confidence in your computer knowhow, its not easy
Ha that happened to my laptop and they replaced basically all the internals, retards.
Nothing you can do other then get it fixed.

Read the OP. It goes away when he taps it. That obviously indicates a failing screen.
Likely, it's the video ribbon going to the screen. You can't repair it, only replace it. Ribbons aren't that expensive, screens are another story.
Depends where along the line the fault is.
If it's the FFC than connects to the LCD panel itself (Or that connects the TWO driver boards in some LCDs that have two boards), then you need a new screen.
If it is the LVDS cable from the screen to the motherboard then you can either repair it or replace it. But this symptom doesn't point to an LVDS signal issue (That usually garbles up the whole screen, shifting colours and general grain)
Sounds VERY much like the FFC that connects to the edge of the panel.
This part (Not the circled bit, the edge of what the arrow is pointing to):

If so, you will either have to put up with it or replace the panel.
I had this with a laptop a few years ago.
You're fucked, basically.
