I'm putting together a new build, i have 700$ to spend, and that has to include the monitor, the graphics cards i've found aren't too bad but i'm curious as to which one you guys think i should get for the price Here are the two i found. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130749 second one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908
Radeon 6850's equivalent is the 256-bit GTX 460. Here are two I found. Sparkle ($139) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187115 EVGA($149) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130752 I'd get the GTX 460, but that's just me because I didn't particularly enjoy ATI's drivers.
I'd spend $10 more for a 6870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150561

Get the GTX 460. It is a truly amazing little card for the price it has. I have some videos displaying its power while partnered with an Athlon II X4 645 3.1GHz (I know it's not the most ideal of processors to be making benchmark videos of games with, however the games still ran smoothly even when recording.) Here's a video I did of Crysis: Warhead Sorry about the video not being there earlier. Oh, and I also practically never hear this som'bitch when playing games, especially when using headphones.
If you are getting the 460 there is a pretty solid deal on newegg right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127646 90 bucks after rebate w/ free 3 day shipping.

I play all my games maxed quite well with it, except ARMA2 (damn CPU).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127646 89 USD after MIR. Grab it while it's hot.
ASUS's 6850 is only $119.99 after promo and MIR. Supposedly a great overclocker. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121419&Tpk=asus%206850 Or you can get yourself a reliable Sapphire 6870 for $159.99 after MIR. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948 Take note that you can overclock a 6850 to a 6870's speeds, but it will void warranty, and as others have said, may not be worth it. Both are great bang-for-the-buck cards, although the 6850 has just a bit more bang, since the 6870 is only 20% better than the 6850. In addition, I recommend the ASUS VE228H for your monitor. I got one right here and the colors are very vivid and not washed out. $143.98 after MIR. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236100&Tpk=asus%20ve228h

Quite amazing. thanks for all the suggestions everyone also to mention i'm not overclocking whatsoever, the price raised the day after i bought it, so it was a steal for me.

What resolution are you running to get 60fps on Ultra in BF3 with a 6870? My 6970 doesn't even get that because AMD's cards handle the MSAA horribly. [editline]26th March 2012[/editline] And the same question for Metro 2033. The GTX 680 gets around 40fps while maxed at 1080p, so what res are you running it at to get 50fps while recording with fraps on max settings?

Still seems a bit high, but with morphological, it might be possible. I'll try when I get home.

If the cards belong in the same series (in this case 6***) it'd be safe to assume that higher number = better That rule applies when you're comparing two cards from different generations (i.e. 5870 vs 6670)
Someone once told me that the numbers like 6870/6970 doesn't mean that the higher number is better.
6*** is general generation. A bigger number (IE. 6*** > 5***) will as a rule of thumb have better general efficency. *6** is an indicator of the performance area. A 67** card is better than a 66** card and so on (some exceptions, like the 4770 and the 4830, and if you're looking at Nvidia, the GTX 460 and the GTX 465) **6* is just a more specific indicator of performance, and and cards that only differ on this number are sometimes based on the same die, and can sometimes be unlocked (fx the 6950 and 6970). As a rule of thumb, you can say that a card with form a newer generation, will be as good (not in power-efficiency, mind you) as one from the older generation with a lower "performance area", as in: 5770 = 4870. In the case of the 6*** series, AMD introduced the 69** cards, so you'll have to move it "one up": 6770 = 5770 (pretty much). This is not a precise method, and you should look at benchmarks before deciding anything. It generally works out.
i run at 1600x900 resolution, videos to prove.
You're running Metro in DX10, it's not even remotely maxed without the DX11 features.
that was while recording sorry i'll have to make a new video i forgot to change it, same stats on dx11 which is what i play at now
that was while recording sorry i'll have to make a new video i forgot to change it, same stats on dx11 which is what i play at now
It doesn't even matter. Neither of those videos are running at 50-60fps, not even close. That BF3 one dropped below 30fps 10 seconds into the video. This is what a 60fps video looks like. If you want to show how smooth it is, Youtube isn't the place to host it. It means that an HD 6770 isn't faster than the HD 5970 just because it's larger. But with larger ones in the same series like the 6870 and 6970 the larger is always faster.
I'd get the GTX 460, but that's just me because I didn't particularly enjoy ATI's drivers.
Catalyst control center is gonna help squeeze out every ounce of juice to your card though
How well would the GTX 460 run Arma 2:AO?
Just jump up to the GTX 560, it costs the same :D [editline]4th April 2012[/editline] Apart from the fact that you'll probably need a bigger PSU
