Is the game any more optimized than when it was like a year and a half ago? (last time I played it)
Is the game any more optimized than when it was like a year and a half ago? (last time I played it)
Nope, they are apparently still adhering to the "pile on content until it somehow fixes itself" style of development.
Nope, they are apparently still adhering to the "pile on content until it somehow fixes itself" style of development.
Which is never. Maybe they can optimize it 20-30% at best, they will never find all code under rubbish pile of shitr they build ontop of more shit. They litterly made it so they have to go digging to find needles in haystacks in order to optimize. Atleast most of it. this game is worst development decision making in past years i've ever seen. Are they litterly retarded or just swimming in money and dont care beceuse idiots praise them beceuse of the massive content updates.

It's really disappointing how misleading the initial trailer was, like how it gave the impression it would be a serious game but then it let you make just absolutely stupid characters and there was text on everything. I remember seeing it at launch and thinking stuff like the absolutely terrible creature behaviour and the very low quality UI with large bright text everywhere would all be temporary and would be improved eventually, but it seems all that happens is more random content is added ontop when several things already in the game feel unfinished and like placeholder stuff.
This game sucks BALLS
Ah yes, beard growing. That's exactly what the game needed right now! :downs:
What interests the average 12-year-old in to survival games? New content or optimization? This is probably their logic, or something.
If you really want to play this game there's honestly only one real way to play it.

There have been stability patches and fixes, everyone just ignores them because they haven't made it so you can play the game on a toaster. Hell this very patch is going to introduce DirectX12 and Windows 10 performance boosts.

ARK doesn't run so great for me. Due to seeing others with apparently better setups also having issues I thought it was still unoptimized. Didn't mean to make it seem like I was blowing smoke out of my ass, but i can see how it looked that way.
Sorry if I seem overly defensive of the game but I enjoy it immensely. A lot of the reason they are adding things and doing little performance tweaks every now and then is because the game is still considered to be in alpha. Personally I think they should consider it in beta after this patch and start working on performance issues and a full release, then start adding stuff again. They'd also probably be further along if they hadn't lost that bogus lawsuit, which is likely why they also released Scorched Earth the way they did. Oh and for those with good systems that are having troubles I'd recommend checking out these launch options. Mainly -USEALLAVAILABLECORES.
Favorite clip of mine to pull out regarding ark's performance: GTX 960; pretty good and newish card, should definitely be able to run the game well. Low: 80 FPS but you get strange issues like semi-invisible dodos (See ~0:40 - 0:55) which has to do with AA being off or low for some reason in my experience. Usually gets worse when combined with lower draw distances to the point where even without minimum draw distances the holo-dodos begin to phase into existence at like 20 feet. Medium: 35-45(50?) fps on the beaches. On high runs sub 30 FPS. Only gets worse from there. Seriously though, on our 960 rig the antialiasing is broken as fuck. When disabled the holo effect mentioned earlier with the dodos gets to the point where you would have thought R2D2 was projecting the animals into the world. Newer video. In a rush so I don't have time to check for the holo issue here but performance is similar in low med which is all I have time to check.
