What's with RPS creaming their pants over Witcher 2? Wasn't the first one a bland point and click rpg where you can also fuck many women?
both 1 & 2 are better RPGs than anything bethesda or bioware have released in the past few years :ssh:
Maybe vanilla, but still nothing beats oblivion and countless hours I've wasted in it. Hopefully skyrim will replace it.
I hope CDProjekt irons the kinks mentioned in the review out by the time I get around to this game.

This is the next game I'll get after playing L.A. Noire.
I hope CDProjekt irons the kinks mentioned in the review out by the time I get around to this game.
Considering what they did for the first Witcher, I have no doubt in my mind they'll clean it up.
Playing it now it is very much the best and worst of pc gaming

It's REALLY good. I love it so far. The combat is a bit weird at first, but you get used to it. The game is pretty challenging on Normal, but piss easy on.. well.. easy. The graphics are pretty damn good. I hear a lot of people complaining about problems running it, but I'm having no problems. It was laggy on Ultra, but ran rather smoothly on High. This is one review on Metacritic that caught my attention.
The perfect 10 might seem overmuch, but let me tell you why I choose such a high score. The game is made clearly for an audience that demanded RPGs from the company that made the Witcher 1. The gameplay actually gets a sparkling 9 from me. The last one point comes for the following reason: CDPR didn't try to expand their audience, get the 'COD' crowd or cater to tastes of focus groups (Gays, Lesbians etc) to gain audience. They simply went ahead with a good game. They also released their game without DRM, a tough but a very satisfying stance. Now this is a rare attitude in a world of populism. This will not only bring them prestige amongst gamers who are typically assumed to be idiots by other developers, but also expand their customer base simply because they focus on making good games.
Damn well spoken if I might say so myself.
I'm enjoying the hell out of it, and I'm still on the prologue bit. I really like how magic isn't this incredibly powerful thing for you, it gives you an edge in combat rather than win it for you singlehandedly.

or cater to tastes of focus groups (gays, lesbians, etc)

I can't think of a single game that caters to anything but straight white males It would be a nice change of pace if it was catered to gays and lesbians or something other then straight white men though.
This game is just too good. Buy it people.
This game is bloody amazing. Apart from the doors, I've loved every single minute of it so far, and I've only been playing for four hours or so. If anything I love the fact that I actually get frustrated at this game sometimes, not because it's hard, but because it's challenging which is entirely different. It offers the sort of slap in the face I needed to realize what a real rpg is. I can't even begin to speak about how intense it is (even more-so for people like me, who didn't play the original witcher). I had absolutely no idea what was going on or what to do at the start, but that's exactly one of the reasons I love it so much. There's no 'training level' or 'press space to jump' sequence, the learning curve is just as gritty and cut-throat as the game's story. And I can't even BEGIN to talk about how GORGEOUS this game is! It's one of, no, THE most beautiful game I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Everything is so... so... nice! My only, only, only gripe that pisses me off as much as the drink pouring animations in mass effect 2, is the doors. I mean what the hell about those doors?!
BTW If your game lags and you have a nvidia, install the nvidia beta drivers.
My only, only, only gripe that pisses me off as much as the drink pouring animations in mass effect 2, is the doors. I mean what the hell about those doors?!
Hey Geralt! Follow me through this door! *Shuts door in Geralt's face.*
I'm really looking forward to getting this. If CD Projekt decide to make a Witcher 2:Enhanced Edition, it may just be the best thing to happen to PC for many years
Damn, I really need to finish the first one now.
both 1 & 2 are better RPGs than anything bethesda or bioware have released in the past few years :ssh:
Nope.avi
Nope.avi
To be fair, they're two completely different approaches to RPGs, so it's a bit tougher to compare. I, myself, like the more compelling story of the Witcher than I do the wandering in Oblivion and Morrowind. It reminds me of the Baldur's Gates, the Fallouts... good times. I think The Elder Scrolls have great worlds to explore, but not much else.
Then you probably played only Oblivion.
I can't think of a single game that caters to anything but straight white males It would be a nice change of pace if it was catered to gays and lesbians or something other then straight white men though.
dragon age
Then you probably played only Oblivion.
Oblivion was mediocre. This on the other hand...
hopefully by the time i finish The Witcher the issues in this will be mostly cleaned up

I imagine the doors are how they are due to the loading of stuff behind them during the open animation still no less of a pain.
that's how I get over them too. but then my mind tells me to complain about loading times. ahaha. but I can't because this game won't let me complain about it because it's so good it's like i don't WANT to find anything bad.
Dear RPS, Stop spelling what as wot! It makes you look even more uneducated than you are currently.
