• Tony Abbott says climate change action is like trying to 'appease the volcano gods'
Policy to deal with climate change is like primitive people killing goats to appease volcano gods, former prime minister Tony Abbott has told an audience in Britain overnight. Key points: Former PM says climate change is "probably doing good" "There must not be" a clean energy target, Mr Abbott says Consequences of climate action are becoming "increasingly dire", he says Mr Abbott has argued that "at least so far it is climate change policy that is doing harm; climate change itself is probably doing good — or at least more good than harm". "In most countries far more people die in cold snaps than in heatwaves, so a gradual lift in global temperatures, especially if it is accompanied by more prosperity and more capacity to adapt to change might even be beneficial," he told the Global Warming Policy Foundation in the United Kingdom in a speech called Daring to Doubt. The Federal Government has signalled it may not adopt chief scientist Alan Finkel's recommendation for a clean energy target (CET) and Mr Abbott has insisted in the speech that "there must not be" a CET. Mr Abbott said environmentalism combined a "post-socialist instinct for big government with a post-Christian nostalgia for making sacrifices in a good cause". "Primitive people once killed goats to appease the volcano gods, we are more sophisticated now but are still sacrificing our industries and our living standards to the climate gods to little more effect," he said.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-10-10/tony-abbott-says-action-on-climate-change-is-like-killing-goats/9033090
Science is not ancient superstition you incompetent troglodyte
It's like he's deliberately saying things that are as wrong as possible.
I believe that Abbott's comments are rather misguided. An increase in global temperatures will see fragile ecosystems destroyed, eg coral reefs via coral bleaching, which can have a wider effect on other species. The increase in temperature will see sea levels rise, continuing to threaten islands in the Pacific and coastal areas all around the world. Also, the increase in global temperatures, through burning fossil fuels, also has an air pollution component, which is already threatening the quality of life in many dense urban areas.
Science is not ancient superstition you incompetent troglodyte
He wouldn't know, he had them burn the books.
This is what you get when the people in charge don't bother learning about the things they're supposed to be taking charge on.
If he ever becomes leader of the LNP again, god help us
In a way I kinda hope he does both for the irony of LNP doing a leadership switcheroo like they complained about Labour doing endlessly and so they tank the next election hard.

Says the guy opposing gay marriage to appease an equally real God.
Says the guy opposing gay marriage to appease an equally real God.
holy fucking shit, I wish I could rate zing But yeah, Abbott is a lunatic, of course he's going to deny climate change so things warm up and he can finally shed his protective layer of human skin and assume his true reptilian form.
he might be on to something here. maybe instead of increasing emissions regulations we need to be sacrificing virgins
an increase in global temperatures does not just mean everywhere is going to be warmer all the time, it means that the climate is also more unstable which causes greater fluctuations in both directions, you illiterate fucking politician.
There's too much stupid in his brain
man if volcano gods had a scientifically demonstrable effect on the world i'd be all for sacrificing goats to appease them
Love Tony, hope he's pm again.
He actually tried justifying a raise in temperature. Someone actually tried to justify global warming.
Love Tony, hope he's pm again.
Yeah me too. It'd be a sure way the Coalition would get booted out.
Love Tony, hope he's pm again.
if you're going to be sarcastic it helps not to have other batshit crazy beliefs yourself, otherwise nobody can tell
He's got it all wrong, to appease the volcano gods an average Joe needs thrown in every hundred years.
if you're going to be sarcastic it helps not to have other batshit crazy beliefs yourself, otherwise nobody can tell
100% serious and I have personally met tony he is a cool bloke, it is possible to vote for someone you don't share all your ideals with you know ?
He actually tried justifying a raise in temperature. Someone actually tried to justify global warming.
He's trying to find the bright side of climate change, optimism is step 3 of the 5 steps toward climate change acceptance. Step 1: Humor: "Ha, climate change what a load, look at this snowball!" Step 2: Reason: "This is just nature doing it's thing, humans play no part in this change!" Step 3: Optimism: "Think about all the waterfront real estate! We need climate change!" Step 4: Pessimism: "There's nothing us mere mortals can do to stop this anyway." Step 5: Acceptance: "Okay I guess we're pretty fucked."
100% serious and I have personally met tony he is a cool bloke, it is possible to vote for someone you don't share all your ideals with you know ?
he is pos the worst politician we've had, as dumb as bricks, and just a down right bad person to boot. if you hadnt been posting here for 7 years youd be a pretty good troll. you need to rethink your whole life dude. [editline]10th October 2017[/editline] you post like an 80 year old man who's too old to change
Get this fucking lunatic out. Get anyone who actively contributes to destroying progress out. I'm sick of this shit.
You know sometimes I disapprove of that guy headbutting Tony Abbot but then he goes ahead and says something like this and wish he got hit harder.
You know sometimes I disapprove of that guy headbutting Tony Abbot but then he goes ahead and says something like this and wish he got hit harder.
What if the headbutt caused t- nah never mind it probably didn't
You know sometimes I disapprove of that guy headbutting Tony Abbot but then he goes ahead and says something like this and wish he got hit harder.
Maybe he's saying this because he was hit to hard in the head ?
Tony's a Rhodes scholar man, just because someone does not have your views does not make them "dumb as bricks"
fundamental chemistry isn't some field where you can have opposing partisan views
Tony's a Rhodes scholar man, just because someone does not have your views does not make them "dumb as bricks"
Are you a gimmick account? Can Abbot be certain about the effects of climate change? Certainly not. So him mouthing off is one of three options. 1. He thinks he knows that climate change isn't an issue, in which case he's dumb. 2. He knows it's worse than he's letting on but thinks it won't affect him, in which case he's dumb. 3. He knows it's worse than he's letting on but chooses to downplay it to appeal to Idiot, in which case he's dumb. It's too complex a system to predict accurately. Maybe it'll be OK but why take the risk? Warming could lead to less predictable rain patterns, bad for farming. It could serve to accelerate desertification, which leads to starvation and refugees. It might disrupt the ocean currents causing stagnation (leading to anoxia and disrupting ecosystema) and causing some places to, ironically, cool down. Imo global warming has become a partisan issue which is fucking dumb coz it's an issue which might affect us all. Idiots like abbot are gambling with our future for meagre political gain. The man's a fool. And who's the bigger fool: the fool or the fool who follows the fool?(you)
