Gore added: "It can be fixed, but we need to recognise that our democracy has been hacked … It has been taken over … and is being operated for purposes other than those for which it was intended."
Stating the obvious?
Al Gore says something that isnt controversial?
lol this is implying al gore wasn't just as much a part of this system.
business interests have owned the us for quite a long time.
He'd know, right? He invented the internet.
It's so hacked that it effects even local goverments, But we all knew this. It's something that needs to be fixed but ofcourse isn't something we can just be like "oh okay, all fixed".
The main reason to fight for a free internet is that the internet has the opportunity to do anything, Literally.
right this coming from a man who mysteriously made a fortune by just pure chance on betting on a very small company named Google before they went public.....while he was the vice president,
the same guy who JUST sold a turd to Al Jezerah for millions of dollars,
who also makes shittons of money selling his "al gore" branded books and items??
ya democracy has been hijacked by big buisness, and both parties are equally responsible, not just the big scary republican party the democrats are just as guilty, even the freekin president has made millions while in office just putting his name on a book

Gore didn't blame one party or person. He pointed the finger at the entire system, himself included. Sure he's a multi-millionaire hypocrite, but he is right that the entire system is a shame. He's also right in the fact that the internet can change that, if it really wanted to.

people marchin in the streets could change it to. that doesn't mean either likely or inevitable; although i think our system won't be able to sustain itself much longer either way.

I give the United States another fifty years before we are forced to disband the Government and start it up again.

Americans are too lazy for a revolution, we are too comfortable with our entertainment and computers for that

Most Americans, at least.
The scary things is, the ones that aren't are usually the most radical...

That's now. I'm talking about fifty years in the future when we have no money and every person, and I mean every single person other than the "1%," is in poverty.

What I see is that most americans are upset at certain things going on but will only open there mouths or make a move when it directly effects there way of life.

A lot of things that we're upset at now is going to directly affect our way of life in a few years time.
Wow, Al Gore, what a surprising and new statement! Let me applaud you with the biggest hit of the decade.

Then people will stand up, Hopefully it can still be changed in that time. It's wrong but it's how it's working out right now.
This isn't Civ.
yea but our current system will not be sustained. i mean whether the whole government collapses or the system has to reorganize to become sustainable, it cannot stay around much longer. its days are numbered.
but america isnt even a democracy is a republic???????????

Do you understand what the expression 'just as guilty' means? Have you measured how much each party benefits from business interests' interference in politics, and if so did you find out that it was equal? Somehow I doubt it.
but america isnt even a democracy is a republic???????????
There's no conflict between those terms.
Big business can only 'hack' a government that has power to regulate those businesses. The more regulation we have the more big business will be in control.
Someone must be in control, either the individual or the government, but the government is just made of individuals. So in the end it's either the individuals making choices for themselves or other individuals making choices for them.
but america isnt even a democracy is a republic???????????
Democratic Republic.
Democratic Republic.
So a Republic.
So a Republic.
It's a Democratic Republic, Where as a Republic the main focus is on the president or leader of the country where as in a Democratic Republic anyone who is a citizen of the country can represent any official government position.
You can also bring it down to "Interpretation" in which place you can interpret that, But I'll call it a Democratic Republic cause it's not just down to the President I vote for. It's the basis from City Council, Mayor, Assembly Council, Governor, Congress, House and the list keeps on going up to President/Vice President. No one is kept from Running except the general requirements which anyone can reach as the main requirements that could ever stop someone is age and being a citizen (AKA, Simple Basis that everyone meets)
However true this is, Al Gore isn't exactly the one who should be preaching about it. He's just as guilty as those he's accusing.
However true this is, Al Gore isn't exactly the one who should be preaching about it. He's just as guilty as those he's accusing.
Which is why he said "I'm guilty of it". He's being the bigger man though and saying this is a problem and wants to solve it. Yeah you can pull "He abused it till he was on top now he wants to fix the loop hole" but you know what he could have said "Fuck it, I'll just chill".
I'd love for a huge wave of Non-Party self supported or Locally Supported individuals to make a stand. I can't wait for the next generation of motivated individuals to take a stand in politics. Coming from parents raised and involved with politics there entire lives and how much they even say "It's all about favors and owing the party".
Things would Radically change in benefit if we had a bigger selection of No-Party candidates not just running but sitting in government positions. All it is now is suck up to the heads of your local party leaders then get moved up till your satisfied with your position then you can go muck about not listening to the people who have "Supported" your way there, but next election your out of luck when it comes to there support or full support.

"The more laws the Government makes about what big business can do, the more power big business will have"
How the FUCK does that work?
