That didn't really happen at all.
The number 13 kept popping up everywhere, korean stuff, odd glitches.

You can't solely place blame upon them. Devs/companies choose to exploit the fanbase in this way they are just as guilty for this kind of behaviour.

I think it would be pretty fun to have HL3 be announced in a complicated cryptic way. The past few years gone by with no news, I think regardless of when it happens Valve have a massive opportunity here to do something fun along the lines they did with Portal 2 but far more outlandish.

It was a bad idea for the devs to do this in the first place. They put something on the bottom of the TF2 Medic statue and then act surprised when people think it's related to Valve.

It annoys me a little how everyone calls the next Half life game Half Life 3 instead of Episode 3, though. There is no reason for it and it doesn't make sense to call the next game HL3.
