Is there any OG ID members left now?
I'm glad that John Carmack is really focusing on VR, as is Valve. This is the next big step in gaming, and it's right on the horizon.
There were fake news about Carmack leaving id some time ago, so this one is true, right?

rip id [editline]23rd November 2013[/editline] but hello oculus
Am I the only one that thinks that Oculus won't ever become as popular as people think it will?
Am I the only one that thinks that Oculus won't ever become as popular as people think it will?
It seems fun but to me games will always be with a controller and a screen. It is like a 3d movie: it looks like a fun and distracting gimmick but to expensive and probably not worth it either because we have been doing it the classic way for to long to change, or simply because it isn't as good as people propose. Don't get me wrong: I would love to own one, but I do question how much support most devs will give it. Making your game compatible with every system and every component in a PC is work enough, they probably don't want to lump on the extra cost and time to develop for Oculus on top of that.
Am I the only one that thinks that Oculus won't ever become as popular as people think it will?
Its success all depends on how affordable it is. If it's cheap enough I bet it'll sell like crazy
Its success all depends on how affordable it is. If it's cheap enough I bet it'll sell like crazy
Honestly, I can't be bothered with that shit. Although, I don't know how representative my opinion is of the rest of humanity.
Damn, that really bums me out.
Am I the only one that thinks that Oculus won't ever become as popular as people think it will?
This is what people who haven't tried the Rift say :v: As long as they keep the price around $300 like they're trying to, it'll be a massive leap in gaming. And they have so much backing from the "big guys" like Carmack, Gabe and even Sony's Yoshida who said he "loves" the Rift (and by chance are working on one of their own for the PS4). The publicity it's been getting has also been good, from gaming magazines, to the biggest newspapers, and even on the TV. Along with large youtubers like pewdie promoting it to millions of subscribers who in turn promote it to their friends (like him or not, the publicity he's been giving the rift has helped a ton) and it'll even show up on national television in Shark Tank in the next episode (like shown here)
I just don't see it being as useful as people think. I still haven't tried one yet but I wouldn't think it's going to be better than looking around with a mouse. I always think it'd be cool in Arma 3 but it would also seem like it'd be hard to focus on moving and aiming while moving your head around. Idk maybe I'm wrong, I'd probably still get one for driving games and stuff though. Would be cool the renew my WoW subscription and run around in first person with one of these.
