Fuck yeah, i was already wondering why it didn't wanted to install on my old spare PC. But it seems you need UEFI instead of BIOS and Ye Olde SteamOS supports BIOS as well. (In my case the BIOS screen just froze when i wanted to launch SteamOS.)

Essentially UEFI is a neat looking BIOS with Mouse Drivers and NSA Backdo... I mean Network Drivers.
