Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Thursday said he wants the Senate to move past Obamacare repeal in 2018 in favor of stabilizing insurance markets and to other issues, prompting a backlash from one of the Senate’s most prominent advocates of repeal and an ally of President Trump.
The Kentucky Republican told NPR that the passage of the GOP's tax overhaul, which also repealed the individual mandate, effectively "takes the heart out of Obamacare." He gave a nod to a new attempt at Obamacare repeal – which the Senate tried unsuccessfully several times over the summer.
"Well, we obviously were unable to completely repeal and replace with a 52-48 Senate," McConnell said referring to the partisan split in the chamber. "We'll have to take a look at what that looks like with a 51-49 Senate [once Alabama Democratic Sen.-elect Doug Jones is seated]. But I think we'll probably move on to other issues."
Wait, I thought McConnell could only get an erection when he killed poor people, how is he gonna get his mojo on without repealing Obamacare????
didn't the tax break bill basically have the obamacare repeal as a rider

Yep, was pretty fucking disgusting to hear him on NPR talking about "bipartisanship" and "cooperation" after he promised to block any and all Democrat SCOTUS appointments indefinitely (calling his promise of such to Obama his "proudest moment") and then spent 2017 ramming through (or trying to ram through) heinous legislation along party lines (like the tax bill) for no other reason than to keep the lobbyist bribes flowing
Now that he's got his donors happy again, he's easing off the throttle for now and trying to appear conciliatory and cooperative and bipartisan after leading a historically partisan Senate, probably in an attempt to make 2018 less of a massacre or to start planting the narrative that the GOP was "bipartisan" for 2020 or 2022 or 2024
Mitch McConnell is a craven fucking worm and, like every other Republican senator and congressman, every breath he takes contaminates this country and its people even further
E: and yes I can generalize all GOP legislators and I will keep doing it until they stop saying "I'm deeply concerned" and then voting 52-48 on terrible bills that their corporate masters demand, or because there was a rider that would benefit them personally or make them look good for re-election (COUGH COUGH BOB CORKER)
They already dealt a death blow to it with the individual mandate repeal hidden in their tax scam. Now, they can sit back and watch the system they sabotaged start collapsing, just to point fingers at the democrats.

Pretty much, the "death spiral" empirically was not happening, even trump administration reports confirmed this. But now? Well, it's very likely that they're making that prophecy come true.
Watch, by march with nothing to show they'll be pressing for another budget just to get another reconciliation ticket then drop all pretense of bipartisanship. Give them even the slimest crack and they will run for the hills of west virginia instead of actually act responsibly just like their healthcare repeal in september when it looked like they would pass stabilization through normal means

I think congress may try to do absolutely nothing in 2018 to try to get some heat off of them for the midterms.
The bipartisan line is nothing more than strategic bullshit. The GOP is starting to realize that all signs indicate a massive shift in political power come the 2018 elections, possibly losing control of both houses of Congress. Realizing what a deep hole they're digging for themselves, they're shifting the party line from "Let's Stick It To The Dems" to "Why Won't The Democrats Cooperate?"
It's completely transparent. They have no intention of bipartisanship whatsoever. Trump is easily the most partisan president we have ever fuckin' seen, even going so far as to explicitly refuse to invite Democratic leaders to photo op Holiday dinners He can't even pretend to be bipartisan for a nice Christmas photo, and the GOP's last decade of blatant obstructionism shows that they can't either. Expect to see lots of stories on Fox News and Breitbart chastising Democrats for not being bipartisan in the coming months, because that's clearly the strategy that the GOP is employing to try to mitigate their losses.
Like anyone will believe that after having majorities in both houses and passing the tax bill.

It's a "good" thing that the repeal of the individual mandate was hidden in a tax bill that is massively unpopular (some 3/4 or so of Americans felt it was a giveaway to the rich at their expense), and not only that but the Democrats have video footage of the President announcing that they "repealed Obamacare" and he intentionally made people keep quiet about it so Democrats/voters wouldn't know it was there -- essentially taking ownership of the move.
There will always be the idiots who believe Fox News when they tell them it's the Democrats' fault that the ACA marketplace is collapsing, but I think enough Americans will remember this tax bill to hurt the GOP, especially if Democrats are smart with ad campaigns featuring clips of the President owning the mandate repeal.
the republican party is going to single handedly cause this country to collapse. they would rather sit in towers made of broken promises and lies and false statements than ever make a decision that actually benefits the people of this country.
