"IBM’s researchers have shrunk Watson from the size of a master bedroom to a pizza-box-sized server

IBM’s Watson, the Jeopardy!-playing supercomputer that scored one for Team Robot Overlord two years ago, just put out its shingle as a doctor or, more specifically, as a combination lung cancer specialist and expert in the arcane branch of health insurance known as utilization management. Thanks to a business partnership among IBM, Memorial Sloan-Kettering and WellPoint, health care providers will now be able to tap Watson’s expertise in deciding how to treat patients.

I bet the everything is expensive
Moore's law, how I love thee..
-snap, bad joke apparently-

It will be a sad day when it reaches its end.
Oh wonderful, they can hide the damn thing on a tiny ass satellite instead of massive computer complex. So when the day comes when humans have to rise up against their machine slavers and topple the machine empire they won't be able to because AI Overlord Watson is chilling in space.
I seriously wonder if the government has contingency plans for rogue AI like they do for zombie apocalypses.
But can it process Crysis?

Yeah but then we reach the end of the tech tree and win a Science Victory
But can it process Crysis?
No, and please stop with these.

Yes, turning the power off.
I hope its Linux.
Apparently, among IBMs in-house Unix based OS and others being the other possibilities, yes.

We have to do it soon, before 2050 hits.

Never.
But can it process Crysis?
I kinda want to see this be a thing 10 years after the release of Crysis.
I seriously wonder if the government has contingency plans for rogue AI
No they don't and it is seriously scary.

that was hard

unless you also connect it directly to the internet in which case you really deserve whatever you get
What would you say if I say Watson was written mostly in Java?
What would you say if I say Watson was written mostly in Java?
Oh no
What would you say if I say Watson was written mostly in Java?
That'd be pretty damn impressive seeing C is whats being used for most everything
What would you say if I say Watson was written mostly in Java?
We are all going to die.
No pictures of it yet?
I bet they got some top notch SSD's that cost $4-7k and are pci-e based.
Pretty damn impressive to say the least.

It won't be very exciting, just an average server box.

Not too dissimilar to this.

The plan is to make it work like the human brain, and thus defeating it would be simple, show it a video of a cute cat, and it will be preoccupied for days, and we just sneak in and turn it off.
but has it acquired self awareness

Then it's clearly not a problem if it tried to go rogue, with the way Oracle updates break everything, chances are it'll be about as capable of world domination as a wet carrot.
