We really don't need 50 different suffixes, it just makes shit more confusing.
I like the idea of removing domain extensions and just having domains as the extension. I read an article about it a few months ago and it seems like the next logical step.
We could replace mail.google.com with mail.google. It's easier to remember and is the next logical step in domains. I've yet to see an argument against it.

Why do we even NEED suffixes?
It's not like they need to be there for technical reasons. Addreses are just a bunch of texts that are linked to IPs. They could have any kind of format, but for some reason we chose illogical suffixes.

You could say that suffixes are to allow multiple people to use the same name, but that brings confusion as well.
