• How do I get better results out of my HD camcorder?

Hi! Some of you may remember I recently ordered a Canon HG10 HD Video Camera. Well, it finally arrived, and now I need to know how to get the best video out of it. One thing I've noticed is that it records in a file format I've never seen before: .MTS, marked as an AVCHD video file. Windows Media Player seems to have difficulty playing these files. They will work, but the seek bar and buttons are all bugged out. This isn't a serious concern, but I would like to know why it's happening. Anyway, After Effects won't import .MTS video, so I imported it into Sony Vegas instead, then rendered it, uncompressed, to a .MOV file. Now it will go into AE, but I'm seeing some annoying (albeit quite funky looking) artifacts. Screencap of a tiny portion of my footage: This is my main concern. Why is it happening, and how can I get rid of it? Will it still look that way in the final AE render? I also have a bit of trouble with all the rendering options I get. I still don't know much about this whole process, so what does Facepunch recommend in terms of file format, compression, interlacing and all that jazz? Also what's the best way to ensure I don't fuck up the aspect ratio when I render it? Well, that's all I need to know for now. Thanks FP!
Don't shoot ghosts. Just kidding are you using interlaced mode?
Deinterlace it. I know premiere pro got a tickbox for it when rendering. Also I know VLC got deinterlace mode. (Press D)

I remember i had the same problem when i borrowed a cam from my friend for a school project. I fixed it though. What i did was a you did, import it to Sony Vegas cause my Adobe programs didn't support it. What i did to fix it was to, instead of having the PIXEL aspect ratio 1:1, make it something with 0,9, I can't remember exactly but it was something like 0,9. If it's not that one, try the other ones
I can help you.

Smash it and make a fire. Good use.
